Study in Cambridge
Cambridge is a city famous for higher education. It is home to two universities, University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University.
University of Cambridge
The University of Cambridge is one of the most famous and prestigious universities in the world. It is the second oldest university in the English-speaking language and has a vast history of notable alumni such as Charles Darwin, Stephen Fry and Zadie Smith. Today the university has over 20,000 students from 150 countries that make up its 31 colleges which cover a vast array of subjects and specialised areas of research.
Anglia Ruskin University
The Cambridge campus of Anglia Ruskin University is just a stone’s throw away from the city centre. The campus boasts fantastic facilities such as the Business School, a brand-new Science Centre, the Mumford Theatre, Ruskin Gallery and much more. The teaching at Anglia Ruskin has been awarded a Silver by the Teaching Excellence Framework.

Cambridge Student Life
Having been renowned for learning since the 13th century, Cambridge is a city that is really geared towards students. It is a vibrant, compact city, with plenty to do away from your desk.
Nights Out
Cambridge is primarily a pub city, but there are a few clubs too, like Lola Lo and the Junction, which all offer different types of music. If you are at the University of Cambridge then you’ll also get used to going to “bops”, which are parties put on by the colleges and are a fundamental part of life as a student at the university!
Public Transport
Cambridge is known as the “city of cycling”! 1 in 5 journeys are made on a bike, making it a safe city to cycle around with bike parks everywhere.
If you are looking to get out of the city, Cambridge has frequent train services to London, Ipswich, Peterborough, King’s Lynn, Birmingham and Stansted Airport. Equally, it is well connected by road and you can get great deals through coach companies that travel all around the UK.
Eating Out
The Eagle pub on Bene’t Street is one of the most famous pubs in Cambridge namely because its where Watson and Crick went for a drink to celebrate their discovery of the structure of DNA. It’s one of the oldest inns in the city, with nooks and crannies where you can enjoy a drink or two.
Said to have the best flat whites in Cambridge, Hot Numbers Coffee, is a popular spot. It has a laid-back friendly vibe with a delicious and creative menu and holds live music events through the week.
In Cambridge, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants. One great addition to the scene is foodPark, which is a collective of street food vendors, that pop-up for lunch markets and regular night market events across the city.
Shopping
Cambridge has superb shopping, there’s a huge range of retail areas clustered around different shopping centres. There’s the Grand Arcade, the Grafton Centre and the Beehive Centre to start you off, while Mill Road has independent shops and cafes, and international food supermarkets.
Cultural Guide
Museums & Galleries
Cambridge is brimming with museums and galleries! To name a few of the standouts, there's the Fitzwilliam Museum, Kettle’s Yard for modern art, Cambridge Museum of Technology, the Museum of Zoology, the Museum of Archeology and Anthropology and the Museum of Classical Archaeology.
Music
Cambridge Junction was opened by the legendary John Peel in 1990 and has brought in big-name musicians as well as supporting up-and-coming artists. Today this social enterprise comprises of three venues that cover music, dance, theatre, spoken word and comedy.
Theatre
Cambridge Arts Theatre is well known for its a varied programme of drama, dance, opera and pantomime. Also in Cambridge, is ‘In Situ’, a group which focuses on taking cutting-edge performance out of the theatre and into unusual spaces.
Architecture
The architecture in Cambridge city centre is amazing. There are great walking tours to learn about the history, however, we think there is no better way to view these iconic buildings than by punting down the River Cam. You can’t get any more Cambridge than that!

Cambridge is a be...
Cambridge is a beautiful city, with lots of places to eat and many different cuisines I’m never out of options for a new place to try. I can’t say much about nights out as I don’t drink alcohol. but according to friends, they believe there isn’t as much choice as they would like. I’m able to travel anywhere I need to as the public transport in Cambridge is good, but the traffic is horrible. Whilst the variety for things in Cambridge is good, the cost of living can be very difficult, including finding spaces for the next year can be a challenge, often bills aren’t included, or some places don’t want students. In my case, I was often turned away as I didn’t have a job, which is difficult as I am unable to get a. Job with my 30+ placement hours per week aswell as lecture days on top of this. it can also be difficult to find places that are close to thr uni and hospital area, which if I do find can be upwards of £800+ which is unaffordable for a full time student read more

Lots of bus routes cut lately and bus prices have increased (park and ride at Newmarket road has gone from £2.70 when I first started uni to £3.50 and it’s a 10 minute bus route so very expensive). Also thinking about introducing congestion charge in the city of £5 a DAY, the city will be abandoned and many shops will shut (job losses for students too). Like all things, they have there ups and downs. as for living in cambridge inevitably this is the case. a much more tamed more narrowed down version london, which for me is ideal. you have everything you need at your door step. or if not your door step. a bus ride, voi scooter or 30 min walk in any direction for what you’re after. a city very easy to suss out and work your way around. daunting at times but then you come to see that everything is made out to help you read more

Quite expensive c...
Quite expensive compared to my country (in some ways), but manageable when you know where to shop. On that note: Mcdonald’s and KFC are absolutely disappointing compared to their other places I’ve been to. However, there are a lot of other places to try when eating out. For nights our, there are plenty of night clubs available, like Mash, Vinyl & Lola lo… all seem ok & Cambridge is quite a safe town too so I never felt scared walking home alone after the dark. There are also a plenty of good stores for basically anything you need or if you by any chance can’t find the thing you’re looking for, London is only under an hour away. Public transport is 50/50, buses either come or they don’t, wouldn’t count on them 100%, rather use the scooters or bicycles. They are also quite expensive too. read more

Living in Cambridge has definitely been more expensive than what I was used to back home but it’s something you adapt to pretty quickly and the jobs available to you make that more than viable. As a student I think it’s pretty hard to get bored around here when there’s so many great clubs for a night out or restaurants and shops to enjoy a good day. That topped with the amazing student deals that so many places here offer just goes to show how great living in Cambridge can be! read more

A very beautiful and history-rich city! With so many colleges around the city, there's always something new to explore. Distances are relatively short, making meeting friends and going out very easy. There are lots of restaurants, bars and clubs, both from well-established chains as well as some that are native and unique to Cambridge. You'll never miss out on shopping as there are many shops and 2 large malls. The cost of living is definitely less compared to some of the larger UK cities but it is not considered cheap due to all the aforementioned benefits; nevertheless Cambridge still is a great and affordable place to live. read more

I am not one to judge the nightlife, despite the pricing in Cambridge being dearer than what I am used to, the living wage is higher and so it isn't noticed as much. So many places to chose from to eat out (or even order in), as well as shop, the city is amazing and I will certainly miss living there. One thing that I would definitely agree with is their transport avenues. Many park and rides regularly circulating around Cambridge (reducing the amount of cars in cambridge), also available bikes to hire - many healthy alternatives than using a car. read more

The cost of livin...
The cost of living in Cambridge is really expensive - with rents similar to London prices. As a student, the price of your accommodation will depend on how rich your college is. There aren't many places to eat out, most students just eat in their college's hall. Eating out is very expensive if you do it. There are only three clubs in Cambridge and they're all a bit boring/ cheezy, as well as being pretty expensive. Students often attend "bops" run by colleges, which are usually cheaper and more fun. Pretty much everyone cycles everywhere, although there are also plenty of buses to get around. The train station provides easy access to London, and there are also several coach routes, e.g. to Oxford. read more
