All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Very good accom, and especially helpful and handsome man at reception
The bloke in reception was my knight in shining armour all year round. Would stay again.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in lee point. Staff are all really friendly and always willing to help.
Been a pleasure residing at Lee Point during my first year at University. Provided me with great opportunities to meet new people over the year, especially in the social spaces offered which I believe has been detrimental to the new friends I have made. The accommodation is amazing value for money and Cork city is easily accessible. The reception have always been extremely helpful, whether that is regarding the collection of parcels, maintenance issues or just generally ensuring that all tenants are content.
I had a great time spending evenings at Lee Point. Rob on reception was of particular note, he always made me and my friends feel welcome and that if we needed anything he’d be on hand to help out!
Great experience, amazing staff
Had an amazing stay here and the reception staff were exceptional, couldn’t have asked for more!
Lee Point in Cork is the most welcoming and friendly accommodation, as a first year student moving to a new county the staff in reception have been a great help for all that I need and lovely people to chat with. I’ve made friends with other students in the accomodation as they have a common area where students can gather and hang out. The gym and laundry facilities are great too, it’s so handy as you don’t have to walk far or pay to go to a gym as one is provided. In general, I love living in Lee Point and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of staying there.
In all my four years of living in Cork city I haven’t found a home until Lee Point. Through years and years of damp, mould and landlords that don’t care, Lee Point is royalty. With the private nature of the building I have a sense of security - this is also strengthened by 24/7 security! My worries of lost parcels or damaged goods has vanished due to the kind and patient nature of the reception staff who act as mediators between the post man and myself. The main contributing factor to staying in Lee Point is the warmth. Once out of the rainy weather of Cork, Lee Point’s warmth is something I’ll always be grateful for. I don’t think I’ve ever put my rad on! The facilities here in Lee Point are phenomenal - with a decked out Gym, an intimate and comfy cinema rooms and when written work is due, the study rooms are my new home!! I won the lotto with my roommates - any resident I’ve ever encountered here is likeminded and it’s like we all work as a family! I highly recommend Lee Point!
Great accommodation located right in the heart of the city centre. Lovely staff who seeks to help students in the best possible way at all times and plenty of opportunities and events planned for students to be able to engage with other peers and make new friendships
