All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

paying a rather large amount of money for the amount of faults we have had in these halls. many weekends through out the winter period with no hot water or heating. Many times the internet hasn't worked. faulty cooker had to be replaced multiple times. ( the first week we went with out a cooker, even after reporting it, they brought us a new one and left it sat there for ages, before informing us that we had to put in another request to have the cooker connected. where is the logic in that? on a positive note, it is very close to the Student union and lectures, which tends to be really handy, The social environment is normally very lively.

Any halls are a great place if you get along and have great housemates! You'll have some of the best times if your life in halls. In Ledbury it was a decent size for what you're paying, however the wifi was diabolical, always cutting out, however I think this was a problem over the uni as a whole and not just ledbury halls

For one of the cheapest halls £104 a week we (flat 8) have four rooms a massive wet room, bathroom and communal area which is great space for having parties or just hanging about in the kitchen. The halls could do with updating like the walls and fridges etc but 2 min walk to the uni as you are by the bus stop and woodbury building. Our cupboard space is better than some of the more expensive halls! room size is good in all rooms as they include some nice storage space and study desk and we are right next to the taxi pick up point. As our building is smaller and the ceilings lower it feels more homely than the newer expensive halls, also the colour schemes feel like home. Cleaners are good depending on who you have as a couple of occasions they have skipped days and even not cleaned except wiping the kitchen table and that's it considering that's part of your rent but overall good also maintenance are good with response however,Ledbury again needs updating as we have made many requests

Too expensive for what it is. £107 a week no ensuite no comfy chairs in the common room no TV. Cleaning doesn't turn up half of the time and even if they do its not a proper cleaning. Sinks in the bathrooms are always left dirty, shower isn't even touched.

Ledbury halls are the heart and soul of the Worcester uni social life, there is always something going on there every night every year. Not the prettiest rooms but they get the job done and sharing bathrooms is surprisingly never really an issue. Defiantly recommend to any first years.

Best party halls at UoW! You make the best friends in Avon and 4years on (after graduating) they're still part of your Avon family. Good enough value for money and the closest halls to the student union and campus.

Had some good memories here but rooms are awful really and you can't really call the social room a living room, hard seats to sit on and tiny bedrooms.

Ledbury had a lovely atmosphere with each hall joining together, relaxed and comfortable for making friends. 1min walk to uni campus shop, 5min walk to main reception area, 10min walk to local shop, 20min walk to town. Taxi service going to town is right by the campus shop so only 1min percent walk! Bedrooms and living areas are standard, it's what you make of it I.e posters and pictures

Apparently we are suppose to get toilet roll every week from the cleaners, we only got it for the first week. Even the student shop doesn't sell toilet roll or bin bags (two of the most important things leaving in a shared communal space/toilet/bathroom) Apart from that, spot on.

Very cheap, but the communal area was better than pretty much all the other halls except the super expensive ones.

Avon flat 10 was left with no hot water at peak time for 5 weeks. (You could sometimes get a hot shower at 2 in the morning.) It was a long fight to finally get some of our rent back for what we went through. Other than that issue, the Avon halls are based the closest to the student union and lecture halls. (making it easier to get takeaway delivered to than others.) The joint balcony's make a very social environment and easy to pop from one flat to another. The large grass space in the middle block was also great for playing games in and setting up a pool on hot days. The rooms were a reasonable size (Room D is slightly smalls and room B slightly bigger.) They had a useful amount of storage and space. I did move my room around a bit, you may get told off by the flat inspectors but as long as you move it back before you go they don't really mind. The common room we changed around about 50 times which was also fine.

Avon was pretty cool. There was a constant war between Avon and Ledbury for the title of the best party halls. I think we won, maybe? Anyway, we were like a family, it was awesome.

Out of all of the halls.. The first block flat 1-8 for Ledbury is incredible.. You all have balconies facing eachother.. Meaning social life is amazing.. Makes other halls look naff.. Instead of having 6-8 flat mates and maybe the flat opposite you as friends.. You have about 30 people at predrinks! And when you're bored there's always someone about to chat or party with!

Ledbury is a fairly average halls. The price is extortionate but if you go for the cheapest the quality of hall decreases massively, and if you go up to standard plus, well the area might be nicer and much newer but you don't get much more for your money. I prefer my kitchen and bedroom (it's a small attic room but it's not as small as i imagined.it's cute and I love my blackout blinds!) to those of my friends in the next accommodation up. We have a fairly large kitchen and have a lot more fridge and freezer space than other flats! Ledbury is known as the party halls every year and this year has been no exception. Incredibly loud music, lots of parties, slamming doors screaming and shouting at all hours, people smoking everywhere (and not just tabacco..). I quite honestly have loathed living in halls. I found the people lazy and selfish and can't wait to move into a house next year! Also Ledbury is in a great location in terms of being close to the Su etc but you can hear the karaoke.
