Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Its okay overall. I'm staying in Willow currently, they're the quiet halls. Good for me as I'm autistic, and appreciate not being blasted with music at 5am unlike my last accommodation in chancellors. I got this place due to uni forgetting to actually put me in for second year accommodation applications lol I have good roommates, but its the luck of the draw. The kitchens a bit small but this is due to it not being a kitchen originally, but an actual social space, when catered diners where on campus years and years ago. The rooms are actually pretty big! better than any of the other rooms on campus. simple layout, bathrooms alright, (showers a bit high) the red carpet could do with replacing. although, the windows are a little crappy, could do with replacing. Theyre all wooden, double paned, but a bit moldy, a good draft comes in especially when its windy. Overall, good for money, quiet halls are nice if youre like me and appreciate quiter people, and want a cheaper option on campus.
Mould, damp, rotting floors and windows, insecure, doors are left wide open by staff during open days, no common room or social space, and the management is not just unprofessional - it's cruel. They literally left a student who had been threatened with BEING KILLED with no support whatsoever.
the cleaners don't always do the full clean once a week as they are supposed to but I can't fault them and I can't fault the halls. for the amount that i pay its pretty amazing!
Cheap but so awful, I stayed in shared bathroom which wasn't too bad but honestly main halls are better
Room is great and everyone i live with is brilliant, WiFi is awful
Very very noisy, the U shape structure make all the noise from Students coming back from a night out bounce around, making it so loud at 4am!!!
Excellent value for money, wouldnt of been able to move out if this accomodation wasnt available
Met some great friends here, cleaner went above and beyond to make us happy and comfortable! Could have done with a bit more common space
it's alright like, good for money, fire alarms are a bit sensitive, constantly going off and things keep breaking
Good space to talk to people and live. Good location for all the buildings on campus and generally rather clean
