University of Sunderland
University of West London (UWL)
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
I will not recommend All Saints House to anyone. It was very hard to reach communication with the staff on site and reception was closed even during operation times. No replies to emails and calls unanswered. Very noisy in the building and from the outside and you often hear loading and unloading from the stores around at dawn and are unable to sleep. When I moved in, the room was dirty and furniture sticky, with black hairs visible around the room from someone else. There was chipper painting and use marks all around the room. The chair provided had use marks. The toilet had dirty marks which I was unable to clean. When I checked out, I cleaned my room and fully but when I requested my deposit back, I got an answer (2 months later) stating that the room had dust (of course it would, 2 months later) and stating all of the things I just mentioned blaming me for those (although they were all already there). Sinks would clog often even though I was really careful all the time. I was left
poor heating and plumbing, bad placement so it gets damp very easily, cold draught all the time, no cleaning between residents, paper thin walls so you can always hear your next door and upstairs neighbours.
I’ve just left All Saints House after staying there for 3 years, and could not recommend it more if you are staying in Sunderland. Obviously this is subjective, but I’d say it is hands down the best place to stay for a student in Sunderland when considering all factors. (particularly if you study at St Peter’s Campus) •Fantastic location, stones throw away from the uni, Stadium of Light metro, the biggest Tesco I’d ever seen in my life, a shopping village and the beach. •12/10 staff, so helpful and friendly, and I’ll definitely miss them a lot now I’m gone •Quality rooms with everything you could need in a studio for a really good price considering the location Really positively contributed to my university experience, thank you!

Smaller accomodation that holds 90 students , situated right next to roker retail park the shops are practically at your doorstep. The staff are great and always ready to help! Its an older building so needs some adjustments at times but is modern and secure! Great place to stay
