Calthorpe Court Biography
Calthorpe Court offers students cosy accommodation ideally positioned in Birmingham and is a twenty-minute walk from the University of Birmingham and within a thirteen-minute cycle from University College Birmingham and Birmingham City University. If you are studying at other institutions, you’re in luck as there are fantastic transport links for you to make use of. The city centre is only a twelve-minute drive away, but if you are in the mood for something a bit different, you can take a stroll to the football pitch, wide open green spaces or Cannon Hill Park.
The accommodation boasts a great social atmosphere and provides residents with a tranquil courtyard, a communal lounge, communal TV, table tennis, games area, pool table and table football. To make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible, there is a study room, vending machine, laundry room, bike storage, WiFi and parking for an additional fee. For peace of mind, there is CCTV, all-inclusive bills, onsite security and contents insurance included in the rental price.
Calthorpe Court has two room styles to choose from, all of which come with high-speed Wi-Fi. If you are wanting to stay with friends, the en-suite rooms with shared kitchen and living facilities are the ideal choice. Alternatively, you can stay in a two-bedroom flat where you have a bit more space to yourself and you share a bathroom with only one other person. Each room comes equipped with a comfy double bed, study space and en-suite bathroom.

At the moment around half of our occupancy is freshers :) You can request to be placed in a flat with other first years and we will do our best to make this happen. The sooner you book the more likely you are to get your preferences.

Kitchens do not come with kettles and toasters however all kitchens do supply a microwave. Ovens are electric and require induction packs.
We have laundry on site, our provider is circuit and there is a charge per wash and per dry.

The premium rooms are double the size in floor space and has an additional window. Much more room and very spacious.

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Good ambience. Good views. Cozy room although could have been a bit bigger. Freezer space is very limited. Carpets are good enough and heating is good. Needs more improvements. But so far I like it here. Its safe and secure.

As a a person that isn’t a huge advocate for going out often, calthorpe is a quiet space with enough of a social sense to create a feeling that makes me happy to call it home. Although the social aspects are limited in terms of the number of other job students nearby, taxis are very cheap in the area so it is not an issue at all. Would recommend if you like going out on the weekends/Wednesday sports nights and then returning to a relaxing atmosphere.

Good value for money for a room with an ensuite . Although it is a long walk from campus, transport makes it very quick and convenient

The main drawback for this accommodation is the distance from the University, the location however may be convenient for some as it’s closer to the city centre, and it’s quieter then other locations which can be a positive. The accommodation is slightly more expensive than other options but considering the En suite it is reasonable. The staff are very nice and management is good. I have had problems with the WiFi being generally slow but it’s bearable.

It is better than other accommodations available however, to do your washing will cost almost £10, and when they update it they do not tell you. The room itself is nice, and if you're lucky with your bathroom that's nice too. However the rooms feel damp and I had to get a dehumidifier to help. If you're at UoB it is quite a walk but it is close to city centre and very close to Aldi.

It’s comfortable and convenient, especially since it comes with all the essentials like furniture and appliances, which makes daily life easier. One of the best parts is the social aspect—if you’re in shared accommodation, you get to meet new people and build friendships, but if you have a private space, it’s nice to have that independence and privacy. Of course, living alone can sometimes feel a bit isolating. Cost is always a factor. Shared places are usually more affordable, but if you want your own space, it’s definitely more expensive. Maintenance and management also make a big difference—if things are well taken care of, it makes life so much smoother. The location matters a lot too. You can definitely find better accommodation at a cheaper cost. Not worth the price at all. I think it is only more expensive since it is not too far from the city center and relatively close to campus (but busses are always delayed) I would suggest finding a better accommodation even if it is further away as it will be more worth the money. Place was also very dirty upon arrival and needed to be deep cleaned, especially the kitchen which had a lingering smell that lasted for months after being cleaned.

The actual building is quite pretty. Otherwise thought, the grass is not cared for, filled with weeds, littered with... litter. The rooms are not very clean upon entry, bathroom is grimey, I found the previous person's hair? Also, my room is leaky, pretty much always wet. Getting anything fixed around here is virtually impossible, you have to go through a fancy app they have and they're pretty unresponsive. Otherwise, the location is pretty okay. It's about a 40 minute walk from the university, which will impact how incentivized you are to go to campus. But it is closer to the city center and gay village. There is a community area as part of the accommodation which is quite nice, with a game room that has a PS5, cinema room, and a decent study area. There are occasional pizza nights and the such.
Overall a good accommodation. I am enjoying my stay here so far!

Best place for the students to live in the UK. Calthorpe has the best environment for an international student. The rooms are nice and the flats are big. There's also a study room, gaming room and movie room which adds to the entertainment one can enjoy. I would highly recommend Calthorpe Court for students who are completely to UK for education.

Good location, staff service and value for money
Was blown away by the friendliness and cooperativeness of the staff, especially George at Calthorpe Court, who is the best maintenance tech I've ever seen. I had a leaking problem, and in less than 24 hours George had arrived at my flat, sparing no extra effort in making sure the issue was solved. Extremely friendly, hard-working, and knowledgeable.

Calthorpe court is a best place for students who are studying in uob aston bcu and other universities in Birmingham. Well maintained and supportive office team with all facilities for students including social space and bike storage space.
All though it is good but some of the things are not good , like sports room every thing is broken, apart from that no social activities held by the authorities. one of my friends live in Liverpool at United students accommodation, they are having soo many social events and they have so many amenities
it's been like almost 3 months and I like this place as it's convenient and does tick all the basic requirements.
Calthorpe Court is situated on one of the most safest and prime neighbourhood, whether it is early in the morning, or late at night it is one of the most safest neighbourhoods to be out in, with a Morrisons and Aldi conveniently close for all your daily necessities. There is plenty of different bus stops within a 10 min walk, to get you to all parts of the city, not to leave out, how reasonable the prices are!
It is located at the best Birmingham street. It is very convenient and safe for students ;particularly girls students. The only problem is laundry.it is too extensive

Great accommodation for the price, also at a convenient location. Aldi which is the best and cheapest supermarket is at a 7 minute walk. Easy travel to the University as well as the city centre because bus stops are near. Feels safe and secure. Hygiene standards could be better with regular cleaning. Great accommodation, exactly what I'm looking for, somewhere quiet to write my dissertation! Aldi is within a 10-minute walk and small Morrisons within 2 minutes, fish and chips and a basic pub just across the road too. Near Cannon Hill Park, Edgbaston cricket. Loads of car parking and two safe bike sheds. Laundry is expensive but all bills (like heating and electricity!) included has been a lifesaver this year.

Worth the price! Better to live in here rather than staying at some other student private accomodations by sharing the whole house, Because I've seen some of my friends suffered in this case and ended up at Calthorpe Court. I've felt that if it is quite cheaper than the original, it will be the absolute student friendly property to pay the rent through installment plan. Good, Friendly, Safe and secure all the time. I feel so peaceful and relaxed when I m in room, and getting good opportunity to make new circle of friends...and the service provide by calthropode (Homes for student ) is very friendly, excellent.

My experience at Calthorpe Court has been wonderful, the staff are extremely caring. In certain situations where I have feared getting in trouble the staff have supported and given loads of encouragement. One experience I’ve had this year is losing my fob, I thought I’d be expected to pay straight away to get a new one, to my delight the staff would open the gates for me at all times and said that I could pay for a new fob once I had enough funds to pay for one. The general atmosphere at Calthorpe is amazing and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Nice place to live at! The place inside is very calm and serene. Rooms are a bit small but still good for a person. Love the storage spaces as there are enough shelves and drawers (even in the cupboard as well) to store everything.
I had an amazing experience with the accomodation. Compact and ensuite rooms are perfect and spacious enough for single occupancy. It's near to city centre and has Aldi jus 400m away
