I’ve only been living here for a few weeks, but I love James House. The on-site staff are super friendly and helpful. The place is very clean and well maintained. Very safe building. I would definitely recommend the place for any student, especially international.

Choosing James House means you can hop on a bus and be on the University of Bath or Bath Spa University campus within no time. The accommodation is located within the city centre, meaning you have plenty of supermarkets, bars, cafes and restaurants right on your doorstep.
If you are looking to meet your neighbours, you can hang out in the living room, communal lounge, outside area or kitchen. You can work up a physical sweat in the on-site gym or a mental one in the study room. There is bike storage, WiFi, laundry facilities and all-inclusive bills to make your stay simpler. You’ll feel well looked after knowing there is a management team, contents insurance, CCTV and secure key entry.
At James House, you have the option of staying with friends in a shared apartment or living independently in the studio room. No matter what you choose, you can be sure to find all the essentials in your room, including a cosy bed, storage space, study area and bathroom.

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

To be honest, the property is amazing the location is good the people at the reception are great but the deputy manager seems really stuck up and creates issues out of nothing. He constantly bothers everyone with minor and irrelevant issues, and is never of much help. Apart from him everything about the property is lovely

I lived in a studio flat the previous year with my own kitchen. This year I switched to James house so I shared a kitchen and doing this found myself socialising easier. Found many of my flatmates interesting and easy to talk to along with management staff who were always friendly and helpful. The bus stop nearby is less than 5 min walk and is at the beginning of the U1 bus route making it easier to get a seat. Cleaning is done by yourself for your room and as a flat for the flat kitchen. So cleanliness depends on your flatmates.

Cons: - Extremely bad soundproofing. You can hear other people closing their room doors, you can hear water running through the pipes in the wall, you can hear cars passing by outside, you can ever hear your flatmate's alarm go off in the morning from the room next door! Definitely not a good place if you want something quiet. - No cleaning service provided for the shared kitchen spaces. For the price you are paying, kitchen cleaning should be included. However, they leave it up to the flat to keep clean and if your flatmates do not care, the kitchen becomes unhygienic and potentially dangerous quickly. Heck, for half the price, University of Bath managed accommodation had a cleaner clean the kitchen once a week! - No social events. Everyone keep to themselves or small groups of friends from their country. Management very rarely organizes events and should really put more effort to solve this issue.

Room is abit pricey but I would say all the other services added live up to the price. The staff are lovely! so so friendly :) i would say the only thing I would like for JH to improve is the internet - for school work it is mostly fine; for everything else that involves downloading and video streaming ( watching lectures + youtube etc ) it can be really slow in the evening

We find that because most of our tenants will also be in their rooms during the evening that the Wi-Fi for the building will be at it's most stretched during this time. As we always look at improving our tenants' stay with us, this can be mentioned to our mangement teams.

Hi there! During the nights i'd assume that most of our tenants would be in their rooms also using the Wi-Fi causing the slower speeds. We are always looking to make students time with us easier and more enjoyable, faster Wi-Fi may infact contribute to this!

James House offers comfortable, modern, and well-equipped student accommodation in the heart of Bath. The rooms are spacious with plenty of storage, and the common areas are well-maintained. The staff are friendly and always available to help, and the location is ideal for easy access to public transport and amenities. Overall, highly recommended for any student.

The wifi connection is not stable. Router is quite far for some rooms causing a lost connection. The bathroom facilities quite old already.

James House is overall really good. The location is great, right next to a super market, a five minute walk to the city center, and a ten minute walk to the train station. The property is on the pricey side, but it’s clean and the social spaces and activities are great. The staffs are friendly and attentive. Issues are fixed quite fast. The Wi-Fi is slow, but manageable. Overall, I would recommend if you can afford the place.

very helpful staff but wifi is unreliable with multiple devices. Rooms are smaller than the price we pay but location makes up for it partially. Staff is great.
It is a very great year staying at James House in Bath. The staffs are really nice and willing to help with every thing. From a long day, coming back to the accommodation, is such a relief.

Whilst the reception staff are lovely, they can be a little too friendly when coming back and wanting to go to your room, but they are lovely and will help you with anything. The furnishings are the cheapest anyone could imagine, every room I have been into their sink leaks, there is mold in the corridors, the oven is what I can only describe as destitute, the noise from the bus stop on one side and the Sainsbury’s on the other means no one can sleep, and for the minimum price of 13k i would rather be in a premier inn than here. Oh and the wifi is completely useless and unusable

I love james house a lot. Firstly, the location is perfect and can meet with all kinds of needs. Secondly, the reception is helpful for collecting parcels and sovling problems. Also, the facilities here is fantastic!
