Going into my second year, there has been a lot of investment in new facilities which look amazing. Lots of help available everywhere. WiFi is not too bad but eduroam has crashed a few times and isn’t available everywhere. Clubs and Societies are amazing with so much choice. Nightlife is a 7/10 with Cheltenham being the better town to go clubbing. Would definitely recommend coming to the University of Gloucestershire.
Wonderful small university which doesn't have a large intake of students; thus ensuring the lecturers will always be there to help. Much more personal than larger unis and the education I still substantial. It's easier to get the help and get your voice heard because of the smaller capacity! However, small doesn't equal not as good! The lecturers are extremely intelligent and the psychology course offers a huge variety of subjects and teaches more about qualitative methods than a majority of other universities! Much more critical towards the approach of psychology and such. The facilities are still pretty good as there is some good technology; e.g. psychology has an EEG lab. Overall, I love this university and truly believe that it is one of the best due to the personal relationship you can have with lecturers, amazing syllabus which teaches a variety and brilliant facilities!
A great university where you dont feel like a number, small campuses mean the lecturers and staff kbow you personally.
The staff are so committed and care about your education
Amazing uni I’ve been there three years and the criminology course is amazing
It’s a fantastic place to study with lecturers who really care for your best interests
A small and home-ly feeling university. As there aren't many people on the courses you have an opportunity to get to know your lecturer on a personal basis which provides more meaningful support.
loved my campus (pittville), made amazing friends and really enjoying my course (biology) which got better and better as the weeks went by!
The pastoral team were everything I could ask for, however, the teaching staff frequently left my emails unresponded to, gave poor and vague advice on essays and failed to spot the signs of my imminent mental breakdown.
Very supportive university with small classes and great facilities, especially with the new investment in sports and Business
Excellent new business school. However, especially in Gloucester, other facilities outside of education are at a minimal. Could have a playing field or public spot other than the cafeteria and the tiny, and usually empty, student union bar
I have just finished first year however, I already begrudge the fact that I will have to remain at this university for 2 more years in order to qualify. First year has been hell. Living in Halls is not something I would ever recommend to anyone - the flatmates that I was so unlucky to end up with made things so horrible in the flat that I either starved or went out to dinner, rather than stepping foot in my own kitchen. A few of the girls I lived with are also on my course and they really crossed the line from 'banter' to bullying. Leaving me with a massive loss of confidence and struggling personally. The lack of support I feel from the tutors made me unable to talk to someone about their behaviour and so I suffered in silence and my Mother, now I am home for summer, is repairing the damage. There's no support at all. Clubs and societies are used for nothing other than 'status' and drinking and who can sleep with the most people. Summary: don't go here, I hate it.
not an amazing uni. The lecturers are funny with their marking and don't really bother emailing you back.
The campus I use (Francis Close Hall) is great. It's very Harry Potter-esque in terms of appearance. On campus there's student services, reception, counselling service, Student Union, careers team, educational support teams etc. there's so much available in such a small campus and the staff do their best to help. The library is open 24/7 and is really good, it has a lot of books, including online access (journals too).
Accommodation provides plenty of privacy and own living space. Oxstalls gym is well equipped, but no deadlifts allowed? Ridiculous health and safety reasons which is due to their own fault by putting weights on top floor. However, gym is cheap. Clubs - large emphasis on 'going out'. Because of the focus on social outings rather than progression, most captains/coaches are chosen based on if the face fits without consideration for skill or experience. However, some societies are a contrast and have a real vision for improvement but are underrated (weightlifting). Careers Service - AMAZING, unless you're a sports student. No consideration for this large student population with exceptional talent. Tutors - Supportive pre-2015... After that, the support from tutors is almost negligible. Only a minority of e-mails are returned. Perhaps due to over investment in facilities/GrowthHub, tutors no longer cared for? Disappointing experience - Not for those who are serious about their future.
Okay facilities and library. A few cafeterias at the campuses.
Lecturer "too busy" to mark any work, but requires it hand written, then scanned, then sent to her so that she can see that we are doing it, Of course we don't ever find out whether it was right. Who would have thought that merely doing the work, without any feedback, would magically improve our work? Computers are still windows 7, take ages to start and freeze, the circle of doom. Online library can't find half the stuff it thinks it has, makes looking for sources really annoying. Loos are awful, don't flush. Nowhere on campus to sit and eat your lunch, or just hang out. Staff seem to have given up.
Some of the facilities could be updated.
There are three campuses all with different facilities. The campus i study on is FCH- Francis Close Hall. There are loads of clubs and societies to join at the university. Excellent Wifi on campus and halls of residence. The careers service also known as the Future Plan team are very helpful and offer a range of help from work experience, volunteering, internships etc.
The campus is extremely pretty and it's reasonable size. However, the university it's self is extremely unorganised and can be very unreliable due to constant timetable changes and cancellations. Personal tutors are meant to help and support you yet there always asking you to go to student achievements who are just as useless. Careers advisors are good at helping and supporting. Internet can be tempential . Cheltenham is a small town and doesn't really have a lot to offer.
