A beautiful campus and exciting experience overall. Incredible architecture and old traditions really involve you into the Universities history. Your facilities, social life, and housing vary greatly based on their college system. It can be confusing to access resources and know what is available to you. There are clubs and societies galore but many cost a lot of money and funding is limited in many colleges. Social events for grad students again vary. Grad only colleges have more grad only events but many have limited funds. Under and post grad s=colleges often allocate more funds to under grad committee. Events planned are up to your social sec (elect a good one or ideally multiple!!!). The gym facilities are not great. Club sports give you better access. The libraries are gorgeous and a fantastic resource for studying and research. Teaching standards are heavily dependent on the course you are enrolled in and the frequency of classes. read more

Like the uni, though most support is college dependent rather than at the Uni level (hence poor student union, etc.) read more

Somerville's campus is one of the largest and is home to one of the largest Bodleian libraries in Oxford, which is always cool. The JCR are also very organised and informative so you'll feel very organised at Somerville and things are not very chaotic read more

the SU could focus more on representing the average rather than the exception. Granted, the representation of the exception is key and crucial; nonetheless, it currently appears rather performative or politically motivated instead of an intrinsic commitment to represent the entirety of the student body. read more

An overall great experience, but some improvements could be made on the internal community. Especially the Oxford SU which a lot of college JCR's have stopped working with due to controversial scandals. read more

I get the vibe that it's very different to the uni experience everywhere else, and yes what they say about the workload is true and real ( :') ) I still wouldn't have swapped it for anywhere else. And like yeah academics etc ofc but the social scene and community here is top notch (I haven't really seen it to the same extent elsewhere), and if you have the opportunity to come here I absolutely would not pass it up. ps: the SU question here is kinda irrelevant bc colleges and their respective jcrs actually take up the role that SU does in other unis. I don't think we're lacking in conventional SU support if you get me. SU does exist but power is limited bc of the college structure and they don't do much but it's not that big of a deal read more
