Clean, new, great facilities! Super happy, especially as this was considered to be one of the most basic student accommodations, I was in Grizedale standard

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
A great comfortable space to live in within walking distance onto the main campus, quiet area and bus stops nearby. Room has good heating, large space and a good view.
Clean, new, great facilities! Super happy, especially as this was considered to be one of the most basic student accommodations, I was in Grizedale standard
Townhouses are the best in every category
Townhouses are the best accommodation so sociable
Nice clean halls. Big kitchens which is great for a party or to get a TV and watch films as a flat !
Great value for money, easy to access and in good location. More communal areas for cheaper rooms could be offered outside of the college bar but generally a good experience
Probably the main reason I enjoy university due to the amazing quality of the Grizedale townhouses and the social areas and events
I love my flat and the community is great it's close to most things I need and the facilities are good
I love Grizedale accommodation, it’s clean and well kept. Nice rooms (I’ve lived in superior en-suite, a twin studio, and a standard (2 shared toilets and showers between 8)) and they’ve all been really nice. Maintenance can sometimes take a while when there is a problem but if it’s vital they’re generally quick to respond. Nice area and modern accommodation. Still a little bit pricey though- ie cheapest accommodation (standard) is still around £105/week
Grizedale townhouse cannot recommend more. Absolutely lovely, living with 11 other people makes it very sociable. Close to the bar and to shops, large lovely rooms.
Townhouses are great social spaces and lovely surroundings
The flat is so nice and good value for money. The showers are really powerful which is a plus.
Rooms are nice and the WiFi is incredibly quick, bar is good for cocktails
I stayed in a townhouse in first year. Whilst living with 11 other people was appreciated socially, the fact that there was no cleaning service for a flat of 11 meant that it was easy for the shared areas to become messy very quickly. The actual facilities of the flat were fantastic and the room I lived in was very comfortable indeed.
There's a sofa and I can just invite my friends to hang out
Grizedale has been an absolute joy to stay at.
The cleaning manager will hold the biggest grudge against your house and threaten you with having to pay for a private cleaner but don’t worry it’s all bull. Grizedale townhouses were above and beyond the best choice ever, hopefully you’re good with stairs though because the top floor is 48 stairs away from the kitchen.
Very clean, comfortable. Great value for money, Great, friendly staff
The accommodation is modern and good for socialising
I lived in a townhouse for 12 people and was so apprehensive. Little did I know I was finding family for life with a room that has everything you need and a bar right outside where events are regularly hosted. It’s even better in summer when you can revise outside with your mates!
Really nice halls for the most part, clean and tidy. Cleaners do the absolute minimum, picking only certain kitchens to clean. Also, the rooms are quite expensive for what you get (e.g. £100 for a room, 2 toilets and showers between 8 people). Internet isn’t always great.
I stayed in a grizedale townhouse last year (2016-2017) and it was wonderful. Spacious and instantly friendly. The facilities are new and the houses are very homely. Everyone in my house was lovely and I'm still friends with them all a year on, they're the only houses with living rooms which are so fun for film nights and pre drinks. It's close to the bar which is pretty empty most the time but is still fun when the TBC events are on, it's close enough to lessons on campus and worth the bit extra.
Currently living in a Twin Studio. No social space/common room, however, shared kitchens last year were nice, but small, and considering you share with 6, very small worktop space, one cooker, microwave etc. Cleaners tended to pick a kitchen at random to clean last year, and would be chatting, not cleaning. Internet is OK, but struggles on phones, and mobile service is pretty non-existent which is annoying. No cleaning in studio bedrooms
Best community anywhere on campus, hands down
Spent two years in a Grizedale College townhouse and it has been the best experience of my life. The accommodation is modern and sociable, which really helped make friends at university. Plus the staff are really great and friendly, having supported me throughout my three years at Lancaster. Cannot recommend Grizedale college more!
Brill social spaces which really give you chance to make friends and relax after a hard day at uni. Spacious rooms with plenty of storage which enables you to really make the room yours. Brilliant management, they really couldn't help more. They are very responsive and get to know students. If you see them round uni they let on which is really lovely as it's another friendly face. Overall perfect for starting at uni!
I'm in a townhouse and I love it - there's no cleaner like the other types of accommodation but with 12 people it's so sociable and such nice accommodation.
Very spacious and social student housing that I would recommend to any first years. It helped me come out of my shell and make some good friends.
Best halls I could of asked for,
Great if you want to live with lots of different people. Very socialable living area with the perks of sharing a bathroom with only one other person. Rooms are nice and large too.
Absolutely fantastic! I really enjoy my time there. I believe that this college beats the other colleges
I gave it full marks because it is simply the best. Conversation Over.
Best location, near all of the other colleges! By far the best socials as well
It's an amazing place to live.
Great location since 30 sec to george fox :D
perfectperfectperfectperfectperfectperfectperfectperfect
Great College , accommodation and social facilities. Lived here for 3 years and it was the best time. The townhouses are great or making friends - very social.
Grizedale townhouse was perfect for making friends and the living space was absolutely top notch
Small college gives a really close community feel.
Great College, friendly staff and brilliant social facilities. The best three years of my life !
Great community feel. Good vibes
Great modern rooms, great vibes if you live in a townhouse too
Amazing, would live here all the time if it was cheaper
i love this college and wish I could stay here forever
Lovely and modern accommodation with good living space, kitchen and a superb internet connection
It was a very convenient location, less than a minute walk from the uni shop. The facilities were definitely top class
I lived in a Grizedale town house during my first year at Lancaster university - and although experience I can honestly say it is one of the best decisions I have made at Lancaster university. The large kitchen, lounge area really helps foster friendship.
Grizedale Townhouses are brilliant for socialising and learning how to cope on your own (because you have to clean it all for yourself - it really is a valuable life lesson). The place is safe and modern. When there is a fault (like a blocked toilet), it is fixed ASAP. However, there are incredibly strict rules. If you don't keep to them, student residences come down on you like a tonne of bricks. No liberties are allowed. So, it is a great place for your first year. It is fun, sociable and the porters are great. But if you want to get away with being untidy or having parties every week, this isn't the place for you.
Grizedale is the best college for social people who like going out and having fun! Townhouse is brilliant for making friends and GZ just has a great atmosphere. Location is great not too far from anywhere and super close to one of the shops!
The college is small, and one other person does my course, so I don't speak to anyone in my college very much. The maintenance man is in my building every day yet we still don't have hot water in the kitchen, my shower curtain was mouldy when I got here and got into trouble for asking to change it, and the toilet seat falls off every time I sit on it. There isn't really enough cupboard space, and the kitchen sink leaks. It's expensive, ugly, cramped, and full of people that do Marketing and/or business.
I am staying at Alexandre Park (studio accommodation), location a bit too far from everything and rental is too high.
Excellent college for socialising - I live in a townhouse so no cleaners hence the low score - middle of campus so easy to walk anywhere - best bar on campus with cheap food and drinks
prons: + large desks, large wardrobe, plenty of space for books + comfy bed with a nightstand + big mirror + thick curtains (can sleep during the day) + new furniture + relatively thick walls + additional desk lighting (no need for a desk lamp) + fitted carpet in a dark color (comfy and looks clean) + additional storage for suitcases and bulk items under the mattress + extensive cork panel by the desk cons: + my room is quite dark (too small window) + unglazed tiles in the bathroom are difficult to clean + toilet tank stiff in operation + no shower cord - can't wash hair only + poor ventilation in bathroom + a small shelf in a bathroom would come in handy + too little space in the kitchen
Great college, most sociable on campus. Small so everyone knows everyone, always something to do and places to go. Only put 1 star for cleaning because in Townhouses you have to do your own cleaning but in ensuite you get a cleaner for shared areas. College accommodation is one of the newer places on campus, all very modern and clean. Bar is great, modern again and has lots of spaces to sit and relax. Barbecue and outdoor seating areas are accessible outside of accommodation as well.
Very fun atmosphere. Out of all the colleges probably the most social and friendly. You get to know everyone in your house and there is a great sense of community throughout the college.
The townhouses in Grizedale College are extremely modern and spacious and provide a great balance of social and private space. The kitchen/lounge area is big enough for the 12 people that live there and the 3 floors of 4 with one bathroom between 2 people are great.
