Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Thanks for the smoking bench we had been begging for one all year. I like my room it’s greattttt love eve and alicia
Good value great location and social spaces
Staff are very helpful and kind
Pretty much the best one in Manchester and with the rising cost of living it’s a good deal on rent
Biggest regret is living in iQ. It is not worth the overpriced inflated cost to live here and I live in the cheapest room. There’s a rat and spider problem where it’s infested with them, you get silverfish time to time, the ventilation in the bathroom is terrible to the point you will have mould growing from the lack of it. The place may look nice but it’s made out of cheap materials and so it degrades very easily. The kitchen is decent however you have no say about your flatmates, and my experience with them has been the worst, they don’t clean up after themselves and always leave a mess and my stuff tend to disappear. The service in reception is good however I have complained in the app abt a drainage issue bc the draining is awful and they should’ve sent for repair but they sent me an email saying it has been done and nothing has been fixed. Another thing to warn is there have been two occasions where staff have just opened my door with no warning, no email. This should not be allow
I love Albin so much - he is the best in printing
The rent is too high for students. The amenities and resources do not match the price.
I think that the heating should have a longer timer as the rooms get very cold. Longer heating for the timer.
I personally an a bit reclusive, but there is still much opportunity here for those more social.
Management are amazing. The cleanliness and rats are a huge problem. IQ have been made aware of this and we have been compensated however the issue isn’t resolved. The kitchens were not clean at all when we moved in. Our freezers were full of the food from residents that lived there last year and were not emptied out until at least a week after we moved in. The ovens and cupboards we cleaned ourselves using our own cleaning products which cost us a lot. Although IQ said not to clean them and that they would clean them themselves, we needed to use the ovens to cook so we cleaned them ourselves. When IQ came to clean them, they replaced the racks and didn’t clean the areas that we couldn’t clean. We spent the full day cleaning the rooms and kitchens as they were horrifically dirty when we moved in. The toilets had limescale all round the bottom of the toilet which again, I spent money on buying products to clean them. I was not compensated for the cleanliness and was disatisfied
Great place to stay for proximity to Salford university, good social spaces, study room, pool table, table tennis, you name it!
positive energy from the environment, but unfortunately sometimes there is intense noise from peoples.
I lived there for three years of my uni life and I’ve loved every second of it. Minus a few noisy neighbours.
I have stayed at iQ student Quarter for three years now, and none have been bad. The rooms are simple and provide all the amenities you would expect for a decent-rate student room. The communal spaces in each flat provide excellent space to relax and get to know your flatmates. The staff here work hard to ensure that students are provided for, live in a clean environment and are safe. Multiple social events are planned by the administration team and you can expect to have loads of fun during them! The only downside I can highlight is that the rooms tend to get dusty quite quickly.
IQ was good enough for me to stay for two academic years so that goes to show the overall experience.
Very happy with this accommodation, the staff and others that live here are fantastic and very friendly. It's a very welcoming place with good facilities and is a short walk from Salford Uni and Peel Park. Wi-Fi can be spotty at times but that is usually at peak hours and all of the kitchens look onto the accommodation which is very ideal.
Excellent accommodation, only main issue is the WiFi but overall it’s an excellent accommodation for all years and the staff are incredible and get there work done.
