Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Solid place to live, enough space for everything and friendly staff. Good value for money.
Great value for money. Close to the university and in a secure environment.
Good value clean well mantained
Great accommodation for students to live in and the property manager is very friendly and helpful.
I don't live in university accommodation but have heard good things
AXO is a short walk away from the library which is ideal and also close to town centre.
Average accommodation location is very good and can connect to WIFI no issues. It is clean and comfortable
Overall good value for money, certainly the best I'm familiar with as well as being the cheapest. Very close to the Atrium Building of the university and only a short walk away from town centre. The rooms themselves are perfectly serviceable and a reasonable size, the kitchens are fairly well equipped however due to the large number of people per kitchen (and no enforcement of the tenancy agreement) the kitchens are usually left dirty (Out of the 3 sinks in the kitchen on my floor at most 1 is clean at a time, and usually none). Staff are friendly and solve practical problems in a reasonably timely fashion.
Lived here all 3 years of my university course, never had any complaints, if there’s an issue it gets sorted straight away, lovely place to live, big rooms
I'm very happy with what I get for what I'm paying, the only downsides are not so cleanly room mates and the time it takes for problems to be solved.
Axo is a comfortable place to live, having a cleaner has been great as I have lived in other accommodation where no cleaner is available, the standard of living is much better.
Love the site but doesn’t have 24/7 security staff or post service. If you get locked out calling security takes ages and costs £30
Super comfy rooms, really amazing value for money.
Good affordable accommodation however there is usually little notice when there will be maintenance or bathroom descaling, sometimes you are notified when something happens usually at 9am when you may be sleeping or not fully awake yet which is uncomfortable. People are friendly enough but there is not enough support/awareness for mental health issues such as social issues if you are not a very social person.
Great location. The staff is really helpful.
Axo is great value for money as a lot is included such as a cleaner, cleaning appliances, washing and dryers for free, etc. However, as Faye isn’t in all the time it can take a while for issues to get sorted and if you get locked out or there is a power cut then it won’t get sorted until the next day which is inconvenient as food can go off, you have to pay the £32 call out fee,etc even if it’s not your fault. However, when Faye is on site she is really helpful and friendly but I feel that it would be better to have someone on site every day at least. For example before Christmas the power went off in the kitchen on a Friday and it didn’t get out back on until the Monday so food went off and the fridge and freezer but this could have been resolved if there was someone on site over the weekends as the cleaner wasn’t in the country as she’s gone home for Christmas.
Overall the experience has been good. However, there has been several management issues such as radiators, fobs, or TV not working properly. There tends to be delays in responding back as there is not always somebody in reception to attend you. Nevertheless, the overall experience has been good as room space is big and the location of the place is quite accessible to both town and University buildings.
Good accommodation and good value for money, well cleaned with good rooms and facilities.
The rooms were a lot spacious than I expected which is really good because I can easily put all my stuff the room.
Great student accommodation! Very friendly staff, regular cleaning service, wouldn't want to live anywhere else :)
Great accommodation, room size is great and brilliant kitchen and equipment. Issues with electricity but overall has been fixed quickly.
love the accom its not as social
This is my third year at this building and i’ve made some great friends here. faye is a great building manager and there’s some issues but she’s trying to fix it as best as possible.
I m rlly happy that I Axo was my choice as a student accomodation.
Would highly recommend this property to students, rooms are really nice and you can make it feel like home
A quiet and independent living space, that remains clean and close to all key facilities
The Property Manegement, more specifically the Building Maneger is just fantastic, everything runs as clockwork and any issue is resolved promptly.
Very friendly and lovely staff, any concerns and issues are solved straightaway. Amazing services. Despite students make awful mess all the time, the cleaning at this moment is pretty good! Some furniture could be replaced, especially sofas and kitchen corners don’t look nice. Also noisy boilers and slamming fire doors are annoying. A big plus for free washing machines!! Don’t have to wash clothes in a sink anymore.
Well managed accommodation, literally a 30 second walk from the Atrium, Library and Arts Block at the University of Suffolk! They recently made the washing machines FREE! Hopefully they keep that, since I used to waste £5 every time I did my washing...
