I'm kind of introvert, and I've heard that JBH has an alive atmosphere, so it wasn't my first choice among all at first. However, the community is so nice, warm and helpful, and I can actually stay here comfortably. Parties and fun activities are held really frequently....(this is so cool) Facilities are old but acceptable. (Shower room is awfully tiny.) Shared room is so **** and so small...The food for catered students is so good, many choices both for vegetarians and healthy diets. Library is nice, with computers and a printer. There are fridge and oven in the kitchen so wa can cook in the weekends. The location is so good. I'm taking psychology and philosophy (and considering physics too) ,and JBH is both close to physics Dept and Buchanan,YHL, not so far as the Dra or abh, so even I woke up late till 8:40 I could still be on time for a 9 o' clock tutorial.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

This a great hall to spend time at in St Andrews.
The cleaning can be intrusive; meal-time windows mean you will often miss meals. The atmosphere is great and common areas are well-maintained and cared for.
Extremely friendly staff, great location and wonderful community. Truly fantastic place to spend your first year in St Andrews!
John Burnet manages to accommodate every type of person whether they value being sociable or solitary, the hall spirit is unbeatable and many who leave choose to return whether permanently or temporarily such is the opinion they hold of JBH.
I wouldn't choose another hall. JBH has everything you could need. A great community, a great location, the friendliest staff and the food is generally really good. Yes, there are things that could be better, but the Hall Committee are really good at working with staff to improve on feedback given by the students.
Hall pride requires me to say that John Burnet will forever be the best hall.
I can't do fractions but I know JBH > Sallies
Great facilities and just a really chill atmosphere
What do I think of when I think of JBH..? I think charity. I think friends. I think banter. Yah, ye know just really chill?
A very friendly and welcoming hall. Definitely the most sociable hall I have been in, with very helpful cleaning and catering staff.
Nothing to blame when you can see Old Course from your room
I love JBH SOOOO much. It was my home for two years and I will still always call it home.
My experience at John Burnet Hall is one I will genuinely never forget. The friends I have made and the experiences I have shared with them are lifelong. I only hope that future generations will enjoy it as much as I have done. Thank you JBH X
JBH is not a hall, it's a state of mind...
JOHN BURNET LA LA LA, JOHN BURNET LA LA LA SOoooooo many good memories here
You'll struggle to find better community spirit than in JBH. It's small but it's like a family. All the ex-residents visit all the time, you never really leave.
Smallest hall at St Andrews but by far the best community!
Love it love it love it love it!!!
I stayed in the annexe, fab en-suite, fab kitchen; shame about the (very short!) walk outside to food/laundry. Hall food was okayyy (I'm a picky eater). Loved the small size of the hall and sense of community, also very convenient location for most thing. 10/10 would recommend.
Very clique-y hall, but good location and nice view of the Old Course and North Sea
A really great hall with an amazing community vibe. Small enough that you feel part of something special without being so small that you lose out on any of the uni experience. The management and staff are lovely too!
I loved staying here. Watching my fellow friends get plastered on the sofas in front hall was a real thrill for all involved! #alcohol
Good experiences all around! From getting plastered and falling asleep in the couches in front hall on the first night, to getting plastered and falling asleep on the couches in front hall on the last night.
