Our flat has had a missing bathroom light fixture for 5 months with seemingly no repair date in sight despite the constant reminders to the uni. The hot water tap also comes out very murky coloured. Other than that I’ve had no issues, the buildings powered by solar which is great and has timers on the taps and showers to prevent wastage.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Hector Boece is certainly not terrible, but for £113 a week the value for money is shocking. The bedroom is tiny with a single bed although a very large wardrobe is provided. The kitchen Is appalling, the table is like a breakfast bar and goes halfway across the main kitchen area so only 2 people max can comfortably cook at the same time. Half the kitchen area is a seating area however it’s only a 2 person couch so it’s pretty pointless. If it was £90 a week I would be over the moon but it’s a premium to pay for what you get. However, it’s surrounded by students, there’s an on site centre which has a shop and bar/restaurant as well as activities and things to do. There are direct buses to the city centre, it’s a 10 minute walk to Lidl, a 20 minute walk to uni and it’s right beside Seaton Park which is lovely especially around the start of semester 1. Overall, not terrible but photos don’t do justice of how tiny this place is!!
10/10 Hillhead is amazing and you'll have a great time
To expensive for what you get tiny kitchen with a table inside and very small rooms with uncountable beds
was a really great place to live and the perfect location
You won' regret choosing Hector Boece!!
Brand new refurbishment, just watch out for the Aberdeen campus staff who try and charge you for everything!
It is good and pretty new, but it's quite expensive.
Near a lot of other students and the lidl. Walk through the park to get to uni is very pleasant. Not that close to town but most of what we need is nearby. Building is pretty nice, though walls don't seem that thick because we've had several noise complaints about parties. Shower water temperature and pressure is great.
