Politics and Philosophy, BA Hons FullTime
I personally love my course, but that may be because I particularly enjoy Philosophy and Politics as subjects, but I'd assume that anyone choosing this joint honours, has a similar reason for doing it. I find that the lecturers are all really passionate about what they teach, which might depend on the optional modules you choose, but probably extends to all or at least most of them. For my core philosophy module, I was taken aback by the amount of essays we had to write as coursework, and consequently the percentage of out module grade they were worth, so if you don't like essay writing, I don't believe you would be a huge fan of this course. I chose this University for studying this joint honour course because I loved the choice of modules that were available, and have to say, I still do. It's important to note, that there are also a lot of readings to do, so if you're not a huge fan of reading, this might not be the right course for you (especially politics in terms of workload). read more

Good course content, but everything else exceptionally poor, striking staff have been abject, university response abject, poor communications, department dogged by ideology, expect to be subjected to a torrent of racism and sexism from a department consumed by itself. Department staff think they run the world the way they act, and their reasons for striking across all four years I spent here were exceptionally poor. Department response to strikes also poor, little consideration given to impact of students. Experience was so poor I will be suing for compensation read more

This course is a good place to learn how “the big games in the world are played” (however don’t expect your tutors to teach you that, they give you the foundation - you build upon it). Since the course covers lots of different topics in 2 gigantic fields of studies, you’re very unlikely to study some unnecessary stuff (maybe except basic theory - but that’s a crucial aspect so don’t neglect it.) Take into account that if you're more about economics than politics, you might find the course too theoretical or even philosophical so if you see yourself as a practical guy/girl have a good look at Economics BA/BSc. At the same time, if your main focus is politics but you also want to expand your expertise in the economics field then you might find that the course contains too complicated Maths modules so check out PPE as well. Overall, if you find the modules provided on the uni website appealing - that is a good place to study at. And career is, well, promising. read more

Great course, only 6, 50 minute teaching hours per week though so not really worth £9k. 22 weeks of lectures/seminars works out at about £82 per hour. Obviously, this doesn't include access to the excellent library facilities or include exams, essay marking time and personal tutor hours, etc. Point being, go to your lectures/seminars and make use of office hours, you're paying for them! read more
Economics and Politics, BA Hons FullTime
When you consider that it's £9000 a year we all know it's a rip off however I suppose you're paying for all the facilities that come with the University such as the brand new diamond building which reportedly cost £90 million or something ridiculous. Aside from that the quality of teaching is good but it depends on what lecturers you get however all of whom obviously know their subject back to front. Content in the course has been interesting despite the constant struggle as a result of the lack of communication between the two departments but I guess that's just what happens when you do a dual honours degree. You are given a personal tutor if you need them however I have not needed mine thus far. At the end of the day the point of going to Uni is to get a job at the end of it, and going to a very well respected Uni will boost your employability in the future. read more
