Value for money is impacted by lecturer strikes. Would say it is a little much for 6-15 contact hours a week. But the course is good, and tutors great/very helpful. The personal tutor system is deeply flawed and completely useless. I have had a different tutor every year sometimes every term, and have never seen them/heard from them more than once. read more

Really think about if you’re the right person for this course before you enter the university of leicester. You’re in twice a week at best, given literally 0 guidance about essay planning and marking criteria, you’re sat in a lecture about renaissance art thinking wow I love books but I’m not sure this is strictly relevant. In my experience this course is great if you want to get drunk on a Monday afternoon or you want a student loan to spend on nandoes but not so great if you like English/ have any interest in learning. The course ease you in with Shakespeare and fiction and smacks you with old English/Chaucer for the next two years after that. As for value for money you’d be better off open spark notes and saving 9 grand than paying for lazy teaching and a complete lack of pastoral support. As for my personal tutor, your guess is as good as mine because I never even met the guy. Leicester is great for mosh Friday and scientific discoveries but if English is your passion- don’t go read more

Course was hard work, but so interesting. You have to make sure you are fully engaged in seminars and lectures as there is so much to get through, so make sure you don't fall behind! Make sure you are in contact with your tutors or personal tutors for help. I would recommend using the library a lot, for the amount of reading ahead of you! Make sure you aren't rushing to get to the end of a novel and really find time to balance your work load. It's a great course with such a variation of literature to explore, but you can't get complacent despite the lack of contact hours, you will need all the time you have got to do seminar work and reading. read more
