Mathematics, BSc Hons FullTime

Obviously not worth £27k. Module choices were crap compared to any respectable course. Degree in maths with group theory and number theory in third yeat instead of first, no topology whatsoever, a s*** load of stats modules and finance and actuarial stuff tho. Not really relevant since the university is firing the maths people and only 3 permanent staff will remain. The remaining lecturers will teach only without doing research. With that being said if you want to study maths dont go in leicester. If you want some degree so you can find a job as an actuary or finane person its probably alright read more

The course modules taught are definitely of value to work in the field. Faculty has done a great job to help us understand the modules well, and to understand our situation amidst the pandemic. Highly recommend the course. read more

Whole department was a shambles. Lecturers were very confusing. Support staff did nothing but make my problems worse and then moaned at me when I didn’t find them helpful. They didn’t take my mental health problems seriously at all and almost laughed them off and said that these issues were stupid. read more

Mathematics, BSc Hons FullTime

Mathematics BSc is a course that requires hard work and commitment but from my experience, it’s a fair game. The more you put in, the more you get out. Here are some factors that you should know if you’re considering choosing this course: • You need a strong memory – UOL love their theorems and proofs and I like this because it’s not too difficult to remember a proof before an exam. • Friends are crucial – Unlike school, University is a lot more self-study and team work. However, make sure you find reliable course mates who will help you in return too. • Computer skills – Don’t worry, you will be taught the basics at UOL if you’re unsure but it’s good to have some experience with Excel and MATLAB especially since UOL focus on these two programs specifically. • Application – This course involves applying numerical methods to a question, which you should be familiar with from A-Levels. read more
