Semester 1 was awful, I only had 1 hour on campus a week. It’s gotten better now, it ranges from 2-5 hours a week depending on what sessions we have. But we’re still not getting the full teaching experience with pre-recorded lectures and like 2 seminars a semester. Covid isn’t an excuse to give subpar teaching anymore considering there are no restrictions left… The course content isn’t as interesting as I’d hoped. Honestly I considered changing courses and redoing first year but stuck with it because I want to be a psychologist. read more

Overall a good course, lots of support from staff and personal tutor. Review of 1st year, overall very few contact hours compared to other courses, was only in uni about 7/8 hours a week, and some modules were pretty boring, doesn't really feel worth the £9,250 a year. Most lectures were good but teaching quality definitely varied. read more

There should be more optional modules. Also it’s ridiculous paying £9,250 a year to only have 7.5 contact hours a week and not to be provided any text books and have to buy them all yourself as it’s essential reading. Also I am yet to see the facilities of the psychology department as the practical ya have all been questionnaires or replications one the internet. read more

Leeds Uni is wildly popular and the Psychology dept respond to this by taking on a ridiculous number of students, which they cannot cater for without compromising the choice of modules and dissertation topics in third year. Consequently, You do not get to choose your third year modules or diss topic, poor for 9,250 per year at a Russell Group university. The 1st year workload is a LOT (I frequently pulled all nighters despite being genuinely organised- 2,000 word reports to be written in 4/5 days was a thing in first year). The 2nd year is just obscene, with very little to no guidance, many people (including myself) dropped out at this point for the sake of sanity. I transferred to a (far higher ranking) university to complete my degree part way through 2nd year and am now absolutely thriving in my 3rd year. Teaching staff are good, but due to the aforementioned issues Leeds lets itself down. read more

Bsc Pychology at Leeds, good course and opportunities for year abroad or year in industry. Great in terms of careers services. Would like to have more contact hours, only 7.5 hours a week. Course is very misleading. NOTHING like A-level psychology and Leeds' course is VERY science focused. If you don't like HARD stats or enjoy maths and science - do not do this course. I was under the impression it was more social / essay based, and I was VERY mistaken - as were many of my course mates leading us all to drop out. The drop out rate of this course is high because it is so math focused so be prepared. If you like the humanities - pick another course read more

My experience so far with Psychology has been positive. The staff are helpful, and there are many resources provided to help if you are struggling. You are always emailed updates on work experience opportunities and placements for Psychology, or volunteer work which is extremely helpful for your future career. This course is mainly made up of lectures, there are not many seminars and once a week you have a "computer based learning" session to help improve your research skills, which is actually very helpful as it puts your knowledge to the test. Lectures are usually helpful, however sometimes it can just feel as though lecturers are reading from the slides. A majority of lectures on this course are recorded so if you ever miss anything or want to understand something better, you can rewatch your lectures back on blackboard. We have personal tutors which we see on a fairly regular basis, who you see for a chat or a session to help improve a certain skill (e.g. essay writing). read more
