The university lecturers are not professional in the way they conduct themselves. They create deadlines for themselves to provide feedback to students on their submissions of work, but fail to meet their own deadlines the majority of the time. In addition to this, the standard of marking varied from lecturer to lecturer so your grades aren't really a good representation of the work you have submitted. To worsen this, the marking for non fulltime students is not anonymous, whereas the fulltime students are supposedly marked anonymously. Students are treated differently depending on their chosen pathways. On a more positive note, the technologies that the university has to offer are above average, however, do not expect the lecturers to know how to use or operate them. read more

I am an apprentice student in the engineering school and if I was to chose a university again, University of Derby would be on my black list. I have learnt nothing useful in the last 4 years other than if you query the integrity of lecturers you'll be met with bad marks from the specific lecturers. No one learns anything and most assignments are done via Chat GPT. If I was an employer, I would never higher someone with University of Derby on their CV. Clubs are not promoted and have to be seeked via emailing lots of people until you stumble on someone who is useful (rare). Even then the clubs aren't very fun since they are under funded and see no backing from the university, namely Formula Student. I think that a job at Morrisons will better prepare you for a future then a degree in the engineering school at Derby University. I am just glad I personally have not paid for the degree but my employer has wasted their money. read more

I attended the chestfield campus and did not use SU, clubs or careers service, I dont even know what was available to us. The facilities were poor, just a small expencive starbucks, a vending machine and one microwave. The library was great until they closed it. I found it difficult to get on the internet so always hotspotted off my phone, luckily I had a lot of data. read more

i study film production and the lecturers are so wonderful and knowledgable. i feel incredibly supported by them, and i know they want the best from me, and it’s clear from the way that they engage with the class that they really care about what they do. i go to the markeaton campus and it’s so close to my accommodation (st chris) and has brilliant access to laptops and macbooks, and quiet areas with computers for studying when i’m not productive enough at home. the blends pop up shop is also great!! very cheap but genuinely the best coffee i’ve ever had. the facilities and access to things to help with my course are outstanding, and i feel like i’m getting the best support that i can get. i truly do recommend the university of derby, and i can absolutely see myself returning for a masters. read more

Just an ok university. Nothing special or groundbreaking. Average/ poor facilities. Library rarely has adequate copies of books you need. It seems to be one of those 'local' unis, i.e. the locals go there because it's their nearest uni, they often just wanna get their degree and move on with life, so are largely unenthusiastic - sadly leads to a mediocre learning experience for all. The uni isn't particularly renowned for it's research or anything. They cram as many students onto each course as possible, therefore lecture halls are full to the brim & v. uncomfortable. The eatery's at lunch time are packed with people and you sometimes can't find anywhere to sit. read more

Nice and tidy campus with different food and drink options. Good quality of teaching and placements arrangements are made for you and staff are really accommodating. The uni bus (U1/U2) are good services that are free with a student ID. They can be a bit busy in the morning and afternoons after lectures end but run regularly. read more

Good overall experience, have had ups and downs but would definitely recommend this university! I will miss being a student, mainly because I love learning and will not get to see the amazing friends I have made as much when I graduate. My advice is to ensure you have a good work life balance, and to get involved with as many experiences and opportunities as you can! read more
