I studied on the Concept Art BA course at Teesside and think there is a good variety of topics covered. If you like digital you can do lots of it here and learn a lot. There is lots of opportunity to meet and speak to industry contacts. A lot of people from games and animation studios come and do talks and portfolio reviews. Animex is also really good to industry connections.

I'm a current MA Concept Art student. The professors on the course are amazing and integrate Career Advice via visiting lecturers/portfolio reviews into the program syllabus. External events such as Animex and Gamebridge are made easy to attend and the organizers tend to work well with campus staff to ensure as many students from relevant fields are able to attend for free. The facilities are fairly well outfitted to student needs. Tech/IT is very responsive in case of server outages or program issues. At times it can be hard to know when rooms are being used for teaching but professors are always gracious and offer any available computers should you need to use them. The Student Union is very robust and hosts every society and club you could think of and adds new ones all the time and has a well equipped shop with lots of good and cheap art supplies. Career Services does their best but my particular program is tricky to find placements given the current industry.
Currently studying concept art as a first year and am really loving it! All the lecturers and tutors have been incredibly friendly and helpful and the modules have been really fun! I’m only in my first semester so we’ve been mostly doing introductory work, but concept art pre production and life drawing have been perfectly challenging and engaging. The campus itself is nice, always kept clean, and you always feel safe walking round even in the late hours of the morning.
Internet & campus services are excellent. Not much for postgraduates in terms of suitable societies & events.
I started here in September of 2024, I honestly did not know what to expect while being at University but so far it has lived up to my expectations. While being in my course, Information Technology (IT) I have learned so much. The way the tutors teach is significantly greater and more in-depth than the likes of being at college / sixth form and the information that they give you is much better. Furthermore, all the tutors are very supportive with anything, if you need help on any topic they are there to support you, and if you need help with something that is outside of university, you are able to get the help that you need. You are even able to get help to apply for jobs, CV help, and anything of that sort. I am enjoying my time here and would recommend it to anyone who wants to study IT.
I'm a current student on the BA Concept Art course, the tutors are really encouraging and give really good feedback which helps me greatly improve my work and my work ethic.
Teesside University's School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies (specifically in my case Civil Engineering), has provided me with a great opportunity to develop my technical skills and gain academic research experience. The course is well thought and provides a good mix of both soft skills (i.e., group work, time management, technical writing, etc.), and industry specific skills (i.e., applied mathematics, structural analysis, hydraulics, etc.). Lecturers and course leaders are approachable and have the students best interests and progression in mind when delivering content. Throughout the course, there has been opportunity to hear from industry partners, Engineers working on real projects, and the potential of visiting live construction sites. Labs are equipped with suitable technology to provided students with a positive experience similar to that of an actual workplace, technicians are friendly and understanding of students experience.
My two years at Teesside University studying MSc in Civil and Structural Engineering have been incredibly rewarding. The course offered a solid blend of theory and practical application, with excellent facilities and access to advanced software. The lecturers were knowledgeable and supportive, providing valuable industry insights. The strong sense of community and collaborative atmosphere made for an enriching learning experience. Overall, Teesside has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to confidently move forward in my career.
Great uni, good lectures and amazing campus, always lots of events to attend , the sports clubs are good but could do with having more of them
Great University with excellent support
I'm on the concept art course and the facilities, teaching and modules are amazing. Staff are very friendly and give great feedback we can work off of.

Review of Teesside University, Middlesbrough Teesside University offers a beautiful campus with modern facilities, making it an attractive place to study. The campus is well-equipped, offering excellent academic resources such as state-of-the-art libraries, research labs, and numerous study areas that cater to a wide range of disciplines. The teaching staff is highly qualified and approachable, ensuring that students receive quality education and support throughout their academic journey. Additionally, the university provides a conducive learning environment with a strong focus on research, encouraging students to engage in innovative projects. However, as an international student, I have noticed one concerning issue. There seems to be a division between international students, particularly those from countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nigeria, and the local and European students. The classes are often split, which creates an uncomfortable feeling of separation and does
Social inclusion helps when making friends on the course. The university provides several social events throughout the last year at university.
Hello, thank you for sharing your experience. We're delighted to hear that you were able to make friends on your course. We’re committed to creating a welcoming and supportive community, and it’s great to know that our social events made a positive impact. 😊
The university usually markets itself as the best university in the world before receiving any money. However, especially for international students, the document processing can be delayed for a long time, such as 1 month. This not only makes them fall behind in their education but also makes it difficult to make friends. The shock of coming to another country brings many problems with it. The accommodation units of the university are definitely inadequate and most students have to look for houses in remote parts of the city. It is also quite difficult to find a job. Nevertheless, it has a system that deserves to be among the best in England in terms of education. After that, its very positive feature is that it is located in a small and cute city and in a very airy place. In addition, the university authorities, especially the units such as the student life center and international student admissions, are absolutely helpful and do their job with a smile regardless of the person.
Amazing experience I had so far! Everyone is so helpful and interactive.
Thank you for sharing your positive experience! 😊 We're thrilled to hear that you've found everyone helpful and interactive, it's great to know you're enjoying your time with us 🌟
We have an amazing university campus
Thanks for your reviw 😊
I am on the BEng Tech (Hons) top up online course. I find the learning materials poor quality. The audio files are of a lecturer in a classroom wandering around. Often indistinct and therefore impossible to follow. I have given up listening to them. The PowerPoint files are of poor quality and difficult to interpret. Support by the nominated lecturer is non-existence and when reluctantly given, unhelpful. I would strongly recommend not taking the BEng Tech (Hons) top up degree here. You have been warned!
Beware of this university they will actually ruin your life if you are an international student seeking for a better life for you and your family before you think I am a disgruntled student have a look at the recent news about how they have been kicking students out for no reason. I am unfortunately a victim of this where there is so many racism within the university facilities. Many international students are failing miserably here and they have been marking people of colours very harshly compared to the locals (no hate tho). These tutors and second markers are aware of how much trouble they will put students into when failing them unnecessarily. So please save your money elsewhere because coming here is basically setting yourself up for failure.
As someone hailing from Kerala, India, I found it pleasantly surprising that cultural differences weren't a barrier, and everyone was treated with equal respect. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the library, sports and recreational areas, and the class room area provided a perfect space to mingle with friends. Additionally, post graduate society weekly activities helped combat any feelings of homesickness. I wholeheartedly recommend this campus to both local and international students.
I really enjoyed studying my degree and doing my masters here, the staff are friendly and offer a lot of support
Thank you for your kind words 😊 We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed both your degree and master's experience with us. Our staff are dedicated to providing a friendly and supportive environment, and it's wonderful to know their efforts made a positive impact. Best of luck with your future 🎓✨
Okay university more social clubs needed
Students Union is monopolised by students basically forcing their own religious beliefs on other students. They try to hide it, but they don't support LGBTQ activities or societies because it's illegal in their home countries. International student representation is good, but they should represent all students - not just their beliefs.
Teesside University has a huge library and a huge SU on campus for the students. It is a modern and good university.
A good uni especially for healthcare courses!
Thank you for your feedback - great to hear you had a positive experience 😊
it is a very nice unversity and it is very nice
The best studying environment with amazing lecturers and personal tutor
I have a good time in the Rialto Court.
Very great school very enjoy my induction week
这里的上课环境非常的好,我喜欢老师和同学,临近学校有一条河非常的好看
The college is great. Facilities are all good and the teachers and teaching staff of the school are very responsible.
The parties and movie nights have been the highlight of the year. It has been brilliant and amazing. The stay is also very comfortable! The views of the river bank and swans is beautiful. Very glad to have chosen Rialto Court for the academic year.
The university is not good at all, and their goal is clearly just making money and providing job opportunities for their people. I am studying MSc in civil engineering and will graduate in 2 months, and I have not seen any labs yet. Also, I have no idea about any concrete test because we don't do any practical work. No support for students employment. I booked an appointment with a staff member to get "help" about improving skills and experience, but they just told me it is hard to get a job here without having experience and I can do volunteering with other companies. She suggested the volunteering opportunities they provide, which really dates back to 3-4 years ago. I wish I was able to give zero star.
The university is a greedy business that tries to cut costs wherever possible. There is no good support for students leaving uni. I was expecting the uni to have connections with perspective employers but they don't. They just show you some job websites. They rely zero-hour contracted lecturers. It's a business and that's do and the students are customers, who do not matter.
fantastic friendly safe uni, loads of support available for everyone but especially learning and disability support. If you are dyslexic and worried about succeeding but know you're intelligent this university will support you so you can show you're true colours
Can't rate Clubs, Student Union, or Careers Service as I didn't use any of them, however other people's experiences seemed to be quite good
I studied Computer Games Design but evenually dropped out due to the awful leature and tutorials which boiled down to the tutor showing his warhammer figures to terrible direction on what exactly we were meant to do. Seriously you would be better off teaching yourself using YouTube tutorials (cheaper too). The Student Union also pretty bad, I look for counselling due to the isolation I was experiencing that was effecting my work and before I could speak to anyone I called "lazy" for "wasting SUs time" when I missed a phone call from them. D*** right awful place to study, felt like both my money and time was misspent.
Only been there 1 year. Teaching is okay but could have more support at times as I feel left behind a bit and teaching myself rather than them teaching me.
A very good place to start your bright career. Having lots of courses to study and excellent service and great campus .
Diabolical support through lockdown
This a university that cares more about marketing than it does about students or education. Central Halls stinks of raw sewage due to a known plumbing issue that will "cost too much to fix", but they will spend millions on new accommodation and campus development. Student services used to be amazing but since the student life building opened you are treated like you're on a conveyor belt and are just an enquiry number. Academic staff are awful. All my lecturers have been at the uni for 10+ years and are so complacent. They are arrogant and think they're above reproach. Absolutely no drive to improve the services they're providing unless it results in saving or making more money. Management is clearly non-existent given everything lecturers are getting away with (ending 3 hour lectures after 20mins, reusing the same lecture slides every semester, copying and pasting from textbooks, grade tampering etc) the course isn't as advertised and careers never have any opportunities for my degree
I was profiled by the university numerous times and had a false allegation made against me, that went to the police and the lecture still works there.
Amazing uni and I enjoyed my time here. But I didn't feel all that safe just outside the main campus and sometimes on, as a lot of the time people on drugs(you can tell) follow you for money. As the uni itself is like a town square, anyone can be there.
TV & Film Production felt like a poorly planned course which, over the 3 years I was there, was shaped and defined by its constant batte for funding. I have found since graduating, that some of the real foundational skills I required in my career were not covered at all.
The lectures were always on hand to help and the services they provided after helped me start up my own business by offering students the chance to win a grant and the training with access to professionals
I have had another all good time at university at teesside so glad I came to here other any other place wouldn't be where I am now without people I've meet here
Overall very good Uni with lots of activities and good facilities
Average, the Uni’s facilities were good but the course wasn’t what I expected and could have been much better
Love it such a great university!!!
The thought of going to university was stressful and anxiety-inducing for a young kid in A-levels who had never ventured outside of his home town. When going to different open days, large cities suffocated me and the quick hustle bustle of daily life increased me stress by a hundred percent. Thus, when I visited Teesside University, it is situated in a small town, calm and homely. Everything is compact and easy to reach, making shopping trips and outing with friends alot cheaper. For the university itself, the staff here are very kind and understanding. As a History student, the department is small but it feels like there is a level of deeper connection. The teachers here care about what they're teaching and it inspires you to do your best work. It may not have a glamorous record like Russell Group universities but when you come here, you are looked after. You are understood, you are listened to.
lovely campus surrounded by slums
Not the best staff on my course anyways. but the SU puts on a range of activities of thats what you’re looking for.
I felt very isolated whilst attending teeside university, I had no help from teachers and even after a year of tutoring me, they didn’t even know my name, I became severely depressed due to this isolation to the point I had to move to a different area of study.
Glamourised pub for kids who have nothing better to do, frankly. Nearly all activities that were non academic revolved around exploiting the booze license.
The University has been one of the best places I have attended, the facilities are amazing and are all up to date with what you need, the staff are amazing, always there to help you out when you need, the internet is quite fast and is always on when needed. The Societies and Clubs are amazing for socialising and doing new things and are definitely in budget for students to enjoy. I would recommend this University to anyone who is planning to continue education, no matter what level they want to do.
Teesside university does provide help when needed as all of the staff I have experienced have always been open to help. The campus is good as over the three years I’ve been here it’s been improving. However the su seems to have gone backgrounds as I know many people don’t find the events good and final fling for example is over priced for what it is and dead repetitive.
The campus and the facilities are definitely the best part of the university. Everything is brand new and works perfectly, especially in the library. The clubs and societies are nothing special, but aren't bad either. The Student's union is pretty good at their job, with events and such being common practice. the careers service isn't really advertised, and I've had no real experience with them so I can't really review that aspect of the university, but I have had a lot of experience with the campus/halls wifi and I can say for sure that it is God awful. Constant loss of connection at random points in the day, and even when you are connected, it takes like, 15 minutes to download 1GB. Overall though, I've really enjoyed my time at Teesside University so far, despite the wifi.
Amazing university to be apart of and the opportunities available for students are incredible. I’m glad I didn’t go anywhere else
Miserable social life, very isolating, very run down dodgy town, you feel like no one at the uni cares about you, you just feel like a number.
Such a good experience so far, loads of extra projects to get involved in
Games programming course is worse than any random person on YouTube you can find to learn programming. Waste of thousands of pounds to get a job
It’s the best uni I’ve been to this year
Unorganised teaching Horrible business school teaching Unfair Judging Terrible at help Bad 3 years worst experiance
Great uni very fun and you have places you can go to to have fun with your friends
It is a very friendly and approachable campus
Great tutors, the material is presented very well.
The student support is very good.
My course staff are great and the facilities we have are just about up to date, it's a great environment to learn. In terms of events and social activities, I think it's been downhill since that final fling 2016 with the voting fiasco...
Wonderful university life, great environment to learn and a very peaceful city away from chaos and pollution.
Excellent and experienced staff (Games Art), and access to all relevant industry software.
Really friendly university lots of help and support for students. They are constantly investing in the campus and making sure everything is up to date.
I feel little is done for the safety of students considering the crime is quite high in Middlesbrough
Good facilities, continuing building work is, at times, a hindrance. Students union is shambolic at best and is no help at all!
Fantastic, supportive staff, a great student's union and some amazing facilities at hand. Teesside was easily my first choice, and it definitely surpasses my expectations.
Fabulous uni with great facilities, amazing lecturers and range of courses
Great uni but the Psychology course was so badly managed.
There’s a variety of clubs at the university and each week get a timetable of new events and dates. There are a variety of facilities for a multiple number of students in different schools. For me in the design school we have a workshop with access and variety of facilities upstairs to help with our work which are always accessible. In the university I always have a strong internet connection
Never used clubs and societies and careers service which is why they have the low mark because I’m not sure what they’re like. The uni is a great place to study. Everything is near by and perfectly situated. Everything about the uni is new and looks presentable and all staff are wonderful.
This university is amazing and offers unforgettable experiences and memories.
Everything feels very last minute and not planned very well, also some tutors are teaching subjects they don't really know
Amazing support, modern technology and great learning environments. Staff are outstanding.
This university has fantastic resoseres that can be use 24/7. I haven't seen much for carers service as I'm a.1st year student
Teesside makes you feel like you're at home even away from home - I can't fault it
I love this university, couldn’t imagine ever being anywhere else for my degree.
Teesside gave me the best 3 years of my life so far!
Good safe university, fantastic computing facilities, great gym facilities, friendly helpful staff and lecturers
Very good university. Very clean. Lecturers are very kind and helpful.
It’s alright, nothing special. Could be a lot more support
Better than I could’ve ever imagined any uni to be
I feel very welcomed here at this university and the facilities are great and the course I am on is perfect
Great university. Love the atmosphere and help on site fir all types of issues. The student union is very active and well established.
Great uni always feels safe and secure and great people and lectureres
SU is great. However uni needs to get rid of hidden course costs and better communication from tutors!
Fantastic, and a very personal university. Small classes make for good lecturer interaction
Campus is well equipped but needs more guidance on how to use everything and more info about things available.
An enjoyable experience but could have been so much better.
Excellent facilities within the science labs and library.
Great uni, amazing staff, amazing campus
Spent 3 years at the University and have no bad things to say. Staff and facilities are always available and the student tend to keep the campus clean. There is multiple options on or around campus to eat and entertain yourself inbetween lessons.
Absolute sick uni, everyone’s so helpful and there’s so much. Campus is always clean. Students union is always banging and buzzing. Couldn’t ask for anything better. Teesside Unis own end of year festival is mint too!
Honestly the worst experience of “university”. Don’t go. Lecturers are corrupt and the facilities are inadequate, go anywhere but here
