Teaching ability is mixed. Some excellent, most good and some terrible. There isn’t a lot of range on the course. I have only been able to pick one module and I had only 3 choices. Prepare for a large amount of programming (MATLAB) and prepare to learn how to do it yourself because in my 4 years of using MATLAB I haven’t had one lecturer who’s taught it well read more

The variety of areas covered by the physics programme will arm you with the tools to venture into any technical discipline of your choosing. For me, I studied two years before going on placement with PepsiCo on a soft matter phyisics role working on food physics, then finished my degree with a project on thin film photovoltaics and have graduated to PhD in solid state hydrogen storage materials. All of these endevours I could not have done if it wasnt for the variety of discipline associated with northumbria physics. read more

It is a good course and enjoyable, especially in the first year however in the second and third years, there seems to be a much heavier maths and theoretical focus with very little content on space in the second year, regardless of which option you pick. Most of the lecturers are excellent and approachable however some can struggle to communicate clearly at times, there are also few English tutors. read more
