A great introduction and stepping stone into the city of Manchester. Certainly a nice diversity of residents. A literal 2 minute walk into the heart of the city. So much to do! The Staff are Brilliant. Really caring, understanding and helpful, Jonathan and Ceri have been excellent hosts. I'm very grateful with my experience at MSV. Very happy resident.

Really good place to live, met life long friends.
Good place to stay for students. Vibe is great and the reception staff is outstanding and very friendly and helpful like Christie and others. The only problem is the noise from the pub downstairs which can get really annoying at night.
Jonathan is always lovely and helpful. A real credit to the team
Good place but a little too many faulty with the units but the maintainence team is very helpful.
Lovely homely flat with good sized rooms and really nice communal areas. Reception staff are outstanding especially Ruby and Jonathan!
Reception Ruby is very enthusiastic and friendly! She is always eager to help me solve problems and get my parcel, It's nice to see her every day!
Above all, the reception team is phenomenal. I always have a good chat with them (Jonathan, Ruby, Ceri and now Kristy). I can go to them for anything and if there’s a problem it’s sorted that day. It’ll be sad not seeing them all next year, they’ve all been that home away from home. I wish them all nothing but the best and it’s good to see they have employed Kristy who like the rest of them represent what MSV is all about! Best, Melanie
Living space and proximity to Universities and shops are very convenient. Outdoor noise can be a bit of a nuisance for fellow introverts, but gym space on ground floor is a great spot to train, decompress or just keep fit.
Lived here for two years before and had a decent experience, staff have been rude a few times but because of the location I stayed for my final year at uni. This year couldn’t have been worse. The rooms have mould on the and when I’ve contacted the staff they haven’t helped, my room is outside courtyard which is open until 2am some nights and is so loud - the walls are paper thin and the windows open or closed sound exactly the same. I can’t get to sleep at night and it’s seriously affecting my studies, when I told MSV this they said there was nothing they could do - what they could have done was told people that noise might be an issue on the contract - I wouldn’t have risked it when Unite Students is right around the corner and you don’t have to worry about noise no matter where your room is. MSV are going downhill year by year, so grateful that this is my last year here.
Pros: 1. Ideal location for university, can literally pop back if I forgot anything or for lunch. 2. Friendly staff and the communal areas (not including your own flat) are regularly cleaned. 3. Bin Shute on each floor so no need to go downstairs (but it stinkkssss) 4. Big room for a Bronze Non Ensuite Medium. Cons:1. Downside of location is that it can be very loud in the evening with the pubs around. People vomiting on the road, random screams past midnight can be heard from the 6th floor, won’t recommend for a 3rd year. 2. Lack of affordable en-suite options is a let down, currently sharing bathroom and toilet with not very clean girls and everyday I cry inside. 3. Price of parking is ridiculous, giving that you barely have to use your car to get around due to the location, you’re literally paying to not use your car. 4. Room decor is plain and bed too soft. Although this a is lovely accom, for me the pros don’t outweigh the cons so I won’t be staying next year.
Different prices for the same size rooms when its just in different lay out. Small gym, no acceptable place to study.
The WiFi is spotty and often disconnects from your devices. There are no windows in the kitchens and the windows in the bedrooms are small. This makes it difficult to tell where you are in the building and can feel claustrophobic sometimes. If you have a Tesco or sky mobile phone the phone signal does not work properly and calls will cut out and not be heard and you cannot receive or send texts most of the time. The rooms are spacious but it is overall a let down for the price.
good rooms however the lack of dining space in silver medium is a put of and why i won’t be staying again. the kitchen is more comparable to a walk in wardrobe and the building tries to take money off you for anything they can even leaving your key in your room after 5.30
The location of this accomodation is brilliant and the team of staff are both friendly and exceptional at creating a welcoming and safe environment for everyone.
The place is in a very good location and the facilities are good but my flatmates boyfriend has been living with us since germ started and the staff have done nothing about it despite being told numerous times. So the flat is cramped and he is extremely rude
Love this university as the location is very convenient
I’m currently in third year and this is the nicest accommodation I’ve had compared to my others. The location is so perfect, 5 minute walk to my uni building and close to the city centre so you don’t have to pay for a bus. The social spaces are amazing you have ping pong and pool and a gym to go to. The staff are so friendly and willing to help y with anything you need, I’ll definitely be staying here again for my final year!
The location is great for me because it’s close to my university and close to my work. The staff seem very kind and polite. Can’t really complain it’s a good accommodation.
Lovely staff, the location is great. It is right next to the university, which allows me to come back during the day.
MSV which provides affordable housing and accommodation for student. Just £600 can rent in city centre at M1 which is unbelievable
Genuinely fast services, safe location, and lots of ways to socialise in the heart to the city centre uts a good accomodation block.
Room was much bigger than I expected and full bars of Wi-Fi in my room, only point is that sometimes it can dip in and out but 85% of the time it’s fully workimg
Not bad to be honest. Have had better
Great location. Lots of students so opportunity to make friends.
MSV has been a great and welcoming start my university life. Staff are helpful and friendly and no complaints so far!!
The social facilities of MSV north are amazing with their gym, study spaces and communal areas. The WiFi is slightly temperamental but the location is perfect.
My student accommodation has been quite good so far! The maintenance people have always been able to sort out stuff for us in good time and reception have been really helpful with giving advice on where things are and the rest of the amenities.
With it being my first time living in a city centre manchester student village made my move in flawless. Exceptional facilities such as a pool table and ping pong as well as a gym. Amazing staff who are always happy to help and the location could not be better for someone wanting the city life. 100% recommend!
Great place to stay as it’s near everything you’d ever need and the rooms are really nice and the staff are helpful and kind
The accommodation is very noisy at night due to the courtyard pub.
Great Value for money. Perfect Location and everyone is welcoming.
It is the worst accommodation I had lived in the past 4 years in manchester. In the first 3 months of living in there, there was no hot water available in the morning. Even in the evening the water is barely warm. I reported the issue and it was only solved after 3 months of complaints. After 6 months living there, they decided to have construction right outside of my flat. For the next 6 months, there was constant noise and drilling from as early as 8 oclock in the morning. Finally, the heating system is very bad. Even in the winter, the heating system would automatically turn off after 5 minutes of it being on. It will not be allowed to turn on until 15 minutes later. This happens throughout the winter so the room is super cold throughout. Overall, for the price being paid, it does not worth it at all. Might as well live in the university accommodation where they actually care for you.
Location is perfect as it’s close to the city centre too, friendly and helpful staff, rooms are nicely sized and clean.
It's cheap and in a good location. The Flat gets way too hot in summer and there are little ways of cooling it down. While cooking in kitchen you feel like your melting. I'm staying again next year though because of the price and location, I would not recommend though.
location is the best part about the accommodation. there are definitely cheaper places than this which offer better value for money. they don’t have a lot of hoovers which makes it very difficult to maintain a clean place since students have to go down at the reception to borrow it.
Really happy with my stay here, incredible location everything you need no more than a 20 minute walk away. Lovely room, only thing is our flat was very small for 4 people and no windows apart from in room so kitchen got very smelly along with the hallway. Obviously thats just the design of the building so understand theres not much you can do about that. Staff were majoritly friendly and always there to help.
The location is the best. A lot of problems with wifi and laundry (which I assume are not under MSV) but could be improved.
Good accommodation for last minute but incredibly pricey for what you actually get
Staff are sound in terms of value for momey, the rooms are decently sized but the kitchen is tiny, you have no communal living space in your flat other than this tiny kitchen and the shower is very small also social experience, dwell do what they can to put on social events but the lack of communal space in the flats means you cant really socialise here location wise for a halls you arent finding better than MSV tbh and they have always replaced appliances very quickly credit where credit is due also if you want to kip before 12 courtyard will probably keep you awake and your sleep pattern will be knackered
Overall, worth the money but not an ideal place to live Good parts: - The price + utilities are included - Great location (other places would charge higher at this location) + transport, Tesco + 24hr Spar are nearby - The maintenance checks your complaints within 3 days and usually fixes the issue adequately - The staff try to help you but are not a smiley bunch of people - The place is cleaned regularly (but flyers in the hallway at times) Bad parts: - 3-bed kitchens have no window so doesn't vent well + shower walls like to mold + shower leaks - A few break-ins + hate crimes this year - The vacuum is almost never available to use (changed the policy recently which helped but still bad) - Laundry machines are a hit-and-miss - No inventory list for the place - Letters go missing at times + lots of party flyers under the door - If you live on the 1st floor, near the entrance, the smell of weed or smoke is regular + drunk people singing nightly + the one car that plays music loudly
Studying at UoM or MMU? I cannot think of anything better than MSV!! We got replacements for the kitchen whenever they need to be. Being on the adjacent building of 'Courtyard' & 24 Hr opened 'SPAR' at the corner & so many social events with lots of freebies will help you feel warm! The only thing is no window for the kitchen & that might be the only trade-off for so many great things! As they say- you will never know till you experience and I really experienced it! Will return to MSV always, if I would have a chance to... Love & will miss MSV!!
The difference between bronze silver and gold rooms is like having a chicken korma with each different tier room, having an extra single chilli flake for silver and gold respectively. The Providence of Henry vacuum cleaners has been pathetic. There isn't even vacuums to go around the block, so it's much better to suck and blow with a straw. Every room lacks size, but since I live in a suitcase it doesn't mind it, some of my mates say the room looks bland. But I don't mind but for the price. I expected more facilities in the kitchen Kitchen storage is a nightmare. 1× 1m³ fridge and freezer. For bronze the oven is good but the stove looks and acts like my grandmother riding a bicycle for the first time in 47 years. The stove is rusted, with the surfaces being bumpy like a camel. The toilet is nice but i would wish there was a toilet roll holder for convenience of avoiding accidental spillage. Gym and vending machine were worth the investment in.
It's great if you have classmates that live in the same building. It makes accommodation much more enjoyable.
convenient location. Kitchens have no windows so it is very cramped and gets super warm. Only 3/4 vacuum cleaners for whole building so don’t count on having a clean floor all of the time. Only CCTV in the gold areas so if you are on a bronze/ silver room make sure to lock door and if something bad happens to your room (happened 3 times that I know of this year) don’t count on the CCTV on getting the issue sorted. Showers blocking/ leaking was really bad throughout the year. Lots of social events throughout the year and my silver room was a good size with good furniture.
Overall such a great staying experience. My room is so comfortable I rarely want to leave it and the social spaces are clean and convenient. There is also regular maintenance for the showers which take no time at all. The staff are also helpful, friendly and respectful. Really love living here and will be really sad to leave :(
Pretty decent but nothing special
Overall it's a good experience.
No Hot Water for several days, 2022
I'm a first year student who turned to dwell as a cheap last resort due to changing uni choice last minute. Honestly, it isn't as bad as the reviews lead you to believe, however I do believe that this comes down to flat location. What dwell don't tell you before moving in is that most rooms overlook a noisy beer garden. If you can, request not to overlook it - it would be worth it. I think the noise is my biggest complaint, and how often things seem to break around the flat. To be fair though, the maintenance guy comes asap and sometimes even the same day that you file the report. I would recommend taking pictures of everything in your room that you think you could be blamed for as soon as you move in (e.g: stains on walls, broken furniture) just to absolutely make sure you get your deposit back. I've been pretty pleased with dwell so far overall though, the staff are good, the internet is, and the location is excellent. I get to class in 6 mins and the train station in 4
brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant
Horrible place to live. Staff always seem aggravated. Constant weed smell on every floor. Only good part to this terrible building is location and fast wifi
Absolutely rubbish. disgusting rooms, disgusting kitchen, moody staff, unfriendly roommates, entire building smells like fish, pain-in-the-ass deposit return policies.... in general id rather be homeless. Lack of sunlight in rooms made my depression worse and no space in the rooms for half of the stuff I brought with me. Would rather die than go back. room costed 6 grand, and was worth a tenner.
It is the worst place you can live. they charge you for everything. common sites are dirty. elevators never work. wifi works horrible. look for another place. it's the worst experience i have ever had
WORST PLACE EVER BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. They will rob you of your money through ‘loop holes’ they create. Do not apply here, if you have applied do yourself a favour and withdraw. Disgusting rude team & disgusting place.
The good side, the location is fab, 5 mins away from MMU, and 15 mins from shops. But that’s it. Don’t be swayed by the location because this place is awful. On the website and in the room viewings they only show you the refurbished rooms which 80% of the rooms are not. They are old, creaky, smelly and cramped, not to mention freezing cold and incredibly dated. Yes the rent is super cheap, but there’s a reason for it. If you are in the basement people will pass by your window and kick the windows at night. The walls and windows are so thin you can feel a breeze coming through. The kitchens have a lingering dirty stench, but even if you wanted to stick around in the kitchen, you wouldn’t be able to because there is NO ROOM. And if you move out then Dwell will make you pay the entire years rent. A complete rip off and trap. I wasn’t expecting anything particularly nice and am no stranger to slumming it. But this place is shocking. Spend an extra £15 a week and find somewhere habitable.
The best part of my uni experience. Met the best people and had the best memories there. It’s not as nice as other locations but I loved it
I am the mother of a student. Thank you to the people who work there. Respond kindly and quickly. They are always willing to help quickly. Thank you again.
Good. Includes pool table, PS4, ping pong, gym. But not very well cleaned.
The place wasn’t the cleanest and I had a horrible experience w my flatmates however the location is great and I’m planning on continue living there for my next year
Such a nice atmosphere, very homely and comforting when away from home. Location is absolutely excellent for students at MMU, 20 min walk to the arndale. Was very sad to leave.
Love Chrystella! She is the most lovely staff here!
As a budget halls, it's good value for money. Don't expect a comfortable time if you're going to be at one of the cheapest halls in Manc though. It does get really noisy at night on the street and down the main halls, and the wifi is unusable on macbooks BUT it is an old building, and you can see the old building charm sometimes. If you decorate your room well, it won't look like a standard hall, especially if you live in a 'plus' room. Many people rebook for another year or more, which is telling to how well they enjoy their stay here. It's definitely recommended for first year MMU or BIMM students looking to get a peak student experience. DEFINITELY not third years, postgrads and unrecommended for UoM or Salford Uni students, as it is far from Salford and UoM is a fair walk. Recently they updated security, so there's now less chance of break ins, but that also falls on students letting others through the security doors so if you live here, ALWAYS lock the doors, even if you're in.
