Film and Television Production, BA Hons FullTime

The Film Production course at York St. John University has its strengths, but also some areas for improvement. One of the highlights is definitely the studio with its amazing range of film equipment. It's a fantastic space that allows for hands-on experience with industry-standard tools, which is a huge benefit for anyone looking to build practical skills. However, I feel that the tutors often rely too heavily on the online learning tools to explain projects. While these tools are helpful, I think more in-person guidance and detailed explanations during classes would really benefit students, especially when tackling complex or creative projects. A stronger balance between the online resources and tutor-led teaching would make the learning experience much more engaging and clear. Overall, it's a great course with excellent facilities, but I think more direct support from the tutors would help students get the most out of it. read more

Fine Art, BA Hons FullTime

this course is pretty bad and post people seem to be on it as a last minute decision or a last resort. the technician is very helpful and the tutors are nice but the tutors only want you to do a particular kind of conceptual artwork and you don’t get to specialise in your own practice (e.g. painting or sculpture) until partway into 2nd year. it seems very behind the times, think 1980s art school, dipping your limbs in paint and rolling on the floor then talking about how it made you feel. it’s obviously underfunded and there was one day in which they even took us to the bins of another design department to fish out off cuts to make artwork with. i ended up dropping out shortly after i started, and i definitely wasn’t the only one to do so or who wanted to drop out. read more
