My first year studying Business & Management with Retail was mildly disappointing. The modules consist of a collection of accounting, management, marketing, stats and quantitative methods and economics. These modules are no more than scratching the surface of what is taught in a Business ALevel and are therefore either repetitive or tedious, especially if maths is not your strong suit. Teaching is as expected at university level, 10 hours of lectures and seminars a week, effort by lecturers does not exceed past a monotonous hour/two-hour long presentation. If you're lucky this is occasionally broken by the use of Turning point devices, which allow for questions to be answered using a voting system. Lecturers could do with better engagement techniques and some need to be shown how to use the audio/microphone equipment in the lecture theatre, for the sake of their voiceboxes and often our ears. The Moodle system is incredibly helpful for when a 9am is too much after a heavy night. read more

My experience so far at Kent has been marred by my location at the Medway Campus: The town in which this campus resides is deprived of local government funding and has a huge unemployment issue making the "cultural experience" of going to university pretty depressing. The main campus feels like a commuter campus as it is the smaller secondary shared campus for Greenwich, Kent and CCCU meaning there is practically nothing besides religious societies and men only sports teams. The Drill Hall Library saves this campus from being a disaster, as it is well stocked and computers are always available. I am starting work at the newly built Student Hub opening in September this year, which I hope is a vast improvement to the feel of the campus. The Dockyard Campus where Kent Business School is located, is beautiful and regularly used for filming, lectures take place in a beautiful old church and there is free access to the Maritime museum featuring a submarine and two huge ships. read more
