Taking Psychology at the University of Hull was the best decision I've ever taken. The classes are informative and well structured, the lecturers are always available whether it be just for a chat or to learn more about the concepts being taught in class. The personal tutor that I was provided with was very helpful whenever I needed someone to clarify the questions I had about assignments read more

Very little contact hours in comparison to other courses. A few of the lecturers literally just read from the PowerPoint which doesn't encourage attendance as the PowerPoints are on ebridge so you can just read them from home yourself. Some of the lecturers have quite bare PowerPoints but add extra info for you to note down which is good as it ensures you are listening. Workshops are with postgrad students and most of the time they seem wasteful as nothing really gets achieved, you just work through a worksheet on the computer, again what you could do at home. All essays for the semester are due on the same date which can make time management and planning quite difficult, you basically need to start writing essays before you've learned what you need - Often the lectures on how to write a particular essay/report are a week before it's due which is all but useless. Content is really interesting & you get to do coursework & exams - a good mix stops it from getting boring. read more

The lecturers are all friendly and helpful, as well as enthusiastic. I haven't personally contacted my personal tutor, as I didn't feel that I needed her help. The university offers a lot of help in job finding, including a module on writing CVs, cover letters, job interview practice, and other employability aspects. However, I found that the course took a little while to get off the ground. In first year, you only have one actual module on Psychology. The others are on statistics (which is very useful), employability (also useful, but maybe not realted to Psychology), and a free elective module. The one Psychology module in first year covered a wide range of topics, but maybe didn't go into as much detail as I would've liked. I would suggest shortening the employability module to cover one semester, and replacing its second semester slot with more detail on the Psychology module. Seconds and third year are entirely Psychology related and are good quality courses. read more
