Computer Science, MEng Hons FullTime

Currently 50% of the way through the course. Out of 13 lecturers I have had the displeasure of being taught by, 4 of them have absolutely atrocious attitudes when it comes to teaching, as in they shouldn't be doing as they actively tell the students they do not care about it. "You should understand that this is not important to me; I forget everything I teach you after you've gone." In response to asking the class a question and not getting any answers. In fact on the day of posting, a lecturer started his introduction with fear tactics to try and scare us all into doing the work that isn't even set yet. It was as if he was in bad mood throughout the entire lecture and didnt want be. Within those 13 lecturers only 2 of them genuinely seem to enjoy creating a new generation of computer scientists and are relatable and approachable. Staff answer questions on coursework clarification with "can't tell you" leaving you to your own devices. £9000 a year this costs me. read more

Computer Science, MEng Hons FullTime

First year has been far too easy in my opinion. First semester I went to most of my lectures but ended up falling asleep in them, yet with 2 days revision for my exams came out with 72%. Second semester literally didn't attend a single lecture and should be ending with around 65% (2:1). I highly recommend doing programming outside of lectures if you feel you aren't learning enough. The programming 2 coursework was a fun challenge and I spent around 40 hours on it (Sounds like a lot, but for the first 3 months of the course I literally only spent 20 hours on uni work, which is ridiculous). The rest of the time was spent drunk, hungover or watching tv. Had the time of my life this year and I'm happy I chose the uni, but I do wish there was more work involved since I'm spending so much money to come here and not being challenged, I compare the difficulty to GCSE. read more

Computer Science, MEng Hons FullTime

You get guidance from students who are often not trained to help you. However you pay a course to get help from lecturers not from other students. The process of "teaching" is done more on each individual and only if you ask for it. So maybe some students get more help, others not at all. It would be more useful to have some general guidelines in the lab practice presented to all students than to repeat 100 times to each student the same thing. It is ineffective considering that the time of one hour or two is divided to 100. How many minutes you have for £ 9,000. Sure, they forgot to mention when you enroll that 20% is a guided study, the rest you are on your own. Most of the times, 20% are wasted on information that you can read and understand on your own, and 80% is left for you to find solutions that are not obviously easy. Job prospect is not better than other Universities as they promoted, all the universities will try to help you to get a job. read more
