They didn't have my course. So I had to put something close to it. I am doing a PHD with computational biology element as a Postgraduate Researcher. I think it's a relatively unique experience. One spends a lot of time learning and developing things oneself, especially with lockdown, although the laboratory access has been fantastic for me. I am partially funded, meaning I just about tick over approximately without incurring additional debt (with some personal reserves just in case). So far I would have liked a bit more input from the training perspective, although I appreciate that Postgraduate Research needs to be somewhat of an individual experience. At the same time I appreciate the freedom to explore ideas on my own. My main supervisor is a workaholic and so far has always been very responsive. My topic is extremely exciting, but again it's mostly individual research/studies. As for job prospects I could not judge that at this stage. read more

This year teaching quality has been very different due to being largely online, and it seems the transfer has been difficult, and not really gone to plan, as a lot of the teaching has suffered. There is also a very large component of pre-recorded lectures that would usually be delivered live, which I don't think is very good. read more
