The course is poor, you can't choose your own studio or tutor. In fact the 5th year project has been called "the ethical city" for about a decade (embarrassing title that sums up the banality of the course). Some tutors are good but the wheels have fallen off long ago. The school has a real knack for making sideways and backward steps and pretending its in the students' best interests (it never is!) I don't know how it gets away with it year after year... Avoid! read more

while the school has seen issues across the different sub school's as a member of MSA (mackintosh school of architecture) i can say it is organised very well. A lot of the other reviews are linked to their individual school and i wouldn't say reflect GSA as a whole. I know MSA students as very realistic about the past year and while its not been GSA's best they are aware of the challenges the institution has had in light of COVID and the flip flopping of the movement on what can and cannot be open. Other schools have not been treated as well as some however MSA is a grand faculty, the staff are so hard working and if you want to make something happen there are measures put in place to make them happen. While studios have been closed the staff have done their best to facilitate a learning experience as much as possible such as Post Graduate Events that have been very successful and the introduction Miro that has allowed for virtual pin up. read more

There is no teaching. You get called a designer from day one and reviewed publicly weekly. Sort of a bootcamp of how to deal with criticism and do better next time. A learn by doing and learn through your classmates, but no strategy is there to manage people in case things do not work. You deal with it and move on to the next one. Unless you are rockstar designer, you know what you want to do and have a defined identity along with the hard and soft skills, don't. Otherwise, great course for a relevant themed folio. read more

Meh. I like my tutor he’s cool, has a lot of experience but just seems so overworked. He has to manage 3 years worth of fashion students and you never get to have a proper chat as he’s rushing to each student. There’s no actual practical lessons learning new techniques or practices which annoys me because how am I meant to develop my work with no new tools in my pocket which is the whole reason I’m here! I like being independent but it just seems you get so much because everyone is so unorganised. Not to mention how much money you spend, you have to pay for everything which makes you question where are all your tuition fees are going? Definitely not on the teaching, there’s hardly any! Technicians for fashion design in particular are very unapproachable, I feel nervous to ask them questions as there so impatient and don’t explain things properly. I feel stupid around them most of the time and don’t instill any confidence in me. I’m a student with ADHD and I feel like a burden on them. read more

Highly conceptual, idea and creativity driven - however with very little way of taught information. This is completely expected of the students themselves, even for industry standard programmes. Contact time with tutors is abysmal until fourth year - although it means you can have the fun uni experience for the first three with little worry. New studios over the last 2 years have improved things dramatically, however. n/a on job prospects but not great so far. read more

I was told to pay full price for my tuition for 2 years, before they realized I should get it for free. No repayment to this day. I am far from the only student that had this problem. The level of unprofessionalism is insane! When suffering from depression in my last year I was told all my work lacked “intelligent input†and when raising concerns with my Head of Department I was told “that they thought I would be stringer than thatâ€. This university gave me some of the most horrible years of my life. I wouldn’t send my worst enemy there. read more
