A lot of this course felt like an online Udemy course which I can appreciate is partly due to Covid. However, lectures and Q&A sessions are normally lecturers just reading off slides which are provided online. The only useful lectures are in-person ones, which were very rare. The majority of my university experience was online, which is why I made the Udemy comparison earlier. I spent a lot of money to live close to uni but wasn't worth the pay-off since 80% of the work I did could have been done from anywhere in the world. There are a few key modules that were exceptionally good in comparison to those Udemy course modules such as group projects/professional projects which was by far the highlight of my experience on this course as well as the most useful module (aside from probably the honours project modules). read more

MPROF in Game Development (not even listed here) is a waste of time. The closest word coming to my mind when I think about it is 'scam'. It's way below Masters level of education. Lecturers don't care about us. The feeling that they're here just to get easy money is clearly visible. We are left on our own with everything. We had to find our own projects and professional game developers to get feedback from them (if you don't know any of them personally then you have to bother unknown people - the best way to get blacklisted!). Lecturers will eventually tell you if you did enough or not - it's all that this uni has to offer. This and PC with Adobe software (other software is mostly available for free anyway) and MS Office (it's our main tool, not game engines). As a bonus, we got a module in which lecturer is focused on politics and social justice, not on game development itself. Are you ready to pay 5, 9 or 15k for this? I heard from other courses that it's not better there. read more

The course is totally underwhelming. It belongs as an online, free course, not a course that people are potentially paying to attend. The content is never engaging and often feels too generalised for courses that the university prefers (Ethical Hacking and Digital Security.) While many of the teaching staff seem well intended, the style of teaching feels too slow and overly simplified on average topics, but tougher aspects that I would rather engage in are often brief and poorly taught. This also is due to the gap between over reliance on online learning and little in person sessions. I do not believe that there is enough effort put into the course, and feels like an afterthought than a real subject. read more

If you want to study art here, just spare your money and time and get some good online courses, you will learn just as much, since lecturers don't go farther than teaching the basics of any software here. The majority of learning is always on you and the feedback is extremely lacking. You will see huge posters about taking care of your mental health plastered along the halls because they are at the point they expect you to feel depressed during the time here. No one can manage their time and feedback lacking is always blamed on lack of time overall, even though they have months to prepare and review their schedules. You will have to deal with academic researchers who never had to apply to a game career in their life and game designers who wish to enslave you to create bizarre and boring game concepts which you’ll never ever be able to display in your portfolio because they’re so awkward, even for student projects. And yes, the above is the art course. Stay away, trust me on this. read more

Massive waste of time. Catered almost entirely to game design students. Whole units will be spent as slaves to make THEIR units feasible, because they don't have the talent to actually do anything on their own. And then, to make up for that, you'll have big personal projects where you'll be lucky to get 1 minute of feedback a week because the tutors are too busy gabbing away with the students they're "pally" with and never bother to circulate until it's too late and they "promise they'll get to everyone next time". They won't. read more
