Acting for Contemporary Theatre, BA Hons FullTime

I was rejected from the acting course for being transgender since then.. I have felt unsafe at multiple points throughout my first year so far, to the point where I am dreading going back after Easter. I was sexually harassed and subsequently bullied by another student in the department, reached out to multiple lecturers and was ignored by all of them, instead of being helped I was asked questions like “but were you drunk?” and “don’t you think she’s just feeling a bit rejected?”. The lack of support is shocking to me and I definitely won’t be continuing with the course next year, and am undecided about staying at the University at all. I would strongly advise anyone thinking about joining the theatre department here on any of the three courses to strongly reconsider. I know I’ll start to lose my passion for acting if i stay on this course and don’t want others to go through the same. If you’re thinking of studying here and have an alternate option please consider that one! read more
