Great lecturers who are attentive
Overall the campus facilities is alright but in my opinion there aren’t anything that are interesting The most frustrating is the internet I couldn’t use it, especially in my accom room and in the class room, it’s just unusable, even if i plug in the ethernet, it’s still poor
I go to LMA, the faculty are amazing and my peers are just the same. The environment is lovely and is a good university for people wanting a good education and welcoming environment.
I've given one star for the campus/facilities for Northampton University because there is a lack of safety on campus. The campus and facilities are probably worth 3 or 4 stars as it is a very nice and new university however I would not recommend any student live on campus due to safety concerns. There was a fatal stabbing near the end of April just outside the Campus (a few steps off uni property). This incident was carried out by students at the uni and was an attack on an international student. There are police on site and various safety measures that clearly failed here and the Vice chancellor is refusing to accept that the uni should make any changes. They've sent out multiple emails regarding this incident that basically just repeat that the incident was off uni property (student was on the way to or from flat on campus and was only a few steps off uni property) and that the uni is safe even though this has proved otherwise.
A wonderful experience so far. But more students accommodation is needed to enable students live close to school area
I go to lma which is in partnership with north Hampton and I love it so much good people good staff
I have been there for 2 years and I have enjoyed it so far
I enjoy my university a lot and look forward to continuing my studies here.
Great uni! Very close to my uni! Learning lots about my course and career excelling well!
Newly built campus but funnily enough the students were not considered as there aren’t any power sockets in lecture halls/seminar rooms where students sit to use for electronics/laptops. this is a significant oversight especially considering the campus is brand new. University’s in general do not care about you as individuals and they will have no qualms about making that clear so get yourself into debt at an institution that can provide you with a proper education and do yourself a favour. I’m stubborn to a fault so ‘stuck it out’ but everyday I regret not leaving when I should have. Don’t be me. If you still need convincing I went through the death of a loved one and was struggling to keep up with my course and my mental health was declining, I reached out to the student wellbeing team for advice and they responded by emailing me the drop out form. Take that as the sign I did. Please don’t come here.
At LMA which is under the university of Northampton which is very good
Good location and good studio space for our practical lessons
Uni has helped me a lot with providing help for mental health
The waterside campus of University of Northampton is beautiful. Currently I am pursuing MSc Project management. There are numerous student groups and organisations at my university, but I have not participated much. There are numerous possibilities for student housing, but early reservation is required. The university's Change maker hub is organising a career expo and placement opportunities, and they are assisting students with their CVs and career paths. The students' union organises several events for students. Multiple communities exist at the university to engage international students in various activities. The Unitemps staff will assist us in finding part-time jobs within the institution.
Very very poor quality staff. You are not a student in there, you are a slave.
‘Safeguarding’ staff are racist to the core. The comments on here give me relief in knowing I’m not alone and make me desperately panic for new students. Racist comment was made to my face and when I tried to report it I was told that I was being sensitive. Get the uneducated, ignorant staff out and get a diverse range of staff in!!
Excellent university. Did my MBA from University of Northampton in 2006. Great exposure, experienced teachers, good facilities, loved the Halls of Residence and campus life.
Lack of support for the creative arts. We've been stuck on the old campus for the last 2 years when everyone else is on the new one. Lack of food facilities also, had to rely on broken vending machines during late night lectures. Almost tool a year to move one module onto the new campus even though they said it would only take a few weeks and all they had to do was download a software onto a bunch of macs. Basically lied to before starting here. Went to an open day prior to applying, got to see the new campus being built. Was told there was going to be a music facility in creative hub, but upon arrival, found out that it didn't exist and later found out that they never even had plans for us to be on that campus. Felt like I haven't experienced the true student life as I see the same 20 people everyday. Course is great, the universities support on the course is terrible.
The MBA program is one of the reliable program that focus in improving career development
#BLACKLIVESMATTER but not according to the entire residential life department. Vile creatures with deep rooted racism in them. They do it by abusing their position by interrogating you. Made me empty my suitcase upon arriving after Christmas break because ‘they wanted to check for any suspicious substances’. Quickly changed their mind when my black mother (Dr Black Mother) asked them why I’m a target for stop and search. Replied by stuttering their way out of it. Pathetic.
Racist uni, glad to have graduated. Living in halls is awful, you tell them there is a problem and staff made racist comments and they coordinated a targeted gaslighting session and caused severe mental exhaustion
The university of Northampton will not care about your well-being. I got sexually assaulted by another student in their uni accommodation and went into severe depression. I did not report it at first as I didn't know who or where to report to in the uni and I found the whole situation hard to talk about, however, when they wrongfully terminated my studies due to the fact that my mental health was getting worse and I couldn't keep up with my work, I mentioned in my appeal about my situation and included a letter from my therapist and they still kicked me out. My abuser is still in university finishing his degree. Aside from that, the campus is not safe at night as anyone can get through, some of their clubs and societies discriminate against black people and they wouldn't answer me back to accept me in one of their clubs. The WiFi also keeps cutting especially in their student accommodation St Johns which prevents you from completing your work.
Good uni, definitely not one of the top but if they dealt with failing departments, they could be!
Very bad experience, their main focus is on money and they don’t understand the student and treat unfairly, i will never suggest this university to any one
Lecturers are brilliant and genuinely passionate about what they teach. Can’t say the same for other departments at this uni- extremely unethical and corrupt.
I was here some years ago for a short time and it was ludicrous beyond belief. Northampton university was one of the worst career moves I've ever made. I've since done with university now until I can afford my master's degree, but the theatrics of the people that I was here with astounded me.
Major issues with drug gang violence on campus
The University is absolutely rubbish, they do not care about students one bit especially minorities. They purposely target the black students for every little thing that happens and they intimidate them a lot instead of comforting them, a black student was stabbed on campus by people who did not go there yet the university brought police onto the campus and ONLY went into the black students flats without them knowing to ask them questions, they also understandably patrol the campus at night but will only stop black people and interrogate them of where they are going but will never to any other races. the Residential Life do not do anything to help at all, only good worker there is Mark. My room has been broken into and things stolen, yet the university did not help me at all, they did not even return my calls or emails. DO NOT GO TO NORTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY!!
I studied my BA in Fine Arts from 2012-2016 had a gap year after second year. There was huge change within the department as I went into second year without it I don't think a lot of student would have went on to finish their degrees. The tutors are amazing, thoughtful and caring I had a few health problems which did effect my studies but when extra time was needed it was sorted quickly. Studio space created are awesome. Although they offer free sports and societies I found that they where not manage properly and became orientated around one person we where often left with no coach too. Having two SUs one in each campus left Avenue with no main events unlike Park which where poorly advertised around Avenue both campuses didn't work together except for free travel between them but the service is poor as now it changed route to more public service. Northampton is rough but there is an amazing alternative community. My experience was like a rollercoaster am glad I've finished!
Was here from 2016-2017 and it was a whirlwind of crime (all of the following happened on Park Campus): First term someone was stabbed near William Carey Accommodation Santander Bank was robbed Someone was kidnapped and beaten by people in balaclavas I highly advise people to not bother with Northampton - it's a disappointment waiting to happen and can be a weird place
Awful. Do not come here if you are Black or ethnic minority. Far better Universities in London that you can (and should) strive to get into and can help you grow as an individual. If you have been bullied and struggle with confidence, please look elsewhere.
Fantastic university. So supportive and caring. There's a brilliant community spirit and everyone is made to feel so welcome. The teaching is absolutely first rate and really well organised. Myself and all my friends who went here, went on to achieve so much. UoN is great for building attitude and life skills as well as academic skills. I assumed all universities were this good until I recently started at a red brick university. It was such a shock. The teachers there don't care or teach well and all the students are stressed and struggling. I didn't realise how lucky I was to be at Northampton until I experienced the alternative.
This is a good university and despite my differences with this university, i am hoping that my second year will be great by force. The university will move to a new campus in 2019 in which i'll be in it. Right now the university why i dont think its 100% brilliant is due to the ghettoness and race divisions of students (90% of ghetto students from london), The appalling internet and the Foundation year for all subjects. This university has potential (despite going down yearly on the guardian league tables) and i hope things will improve. Other than that, it is a good university but with minor difficulties
I was a fashion and textiles student and chose to leave on the academic year of 2015 going into 2016, The facilities ain't amazing, however, it has what you need, studio rooms are way to small (don't be fooled by the first year studio spaces) The year I joined was the year it all changed, and you no doubt have seen previous students reviews from previous years it's all changed academicly now, I was aware that a degree isn't easy but Northampton do take it to the next level its laughable how intense they make it, We are all in 5 days a week 8.30 am till 4.30 pm, however, that's dream talking, students stay till very late often mid night and near the dead lines you will definitely be in weekends and students do all nighters on campus awsell due to the large amount of work. The only area of the course I liked was the open door access, this means you don't need to arrange an appointment to see your tutor. And I met the most beautiful people and created good friends.
Great place to learn and develope into the ideal employee with great extra curricular activities
Great university, so much support and guidance from both tutors students. Huge library with an amazing amount of resources.
The wifi around campus can be poor if lots of people are using it
So far I have completed my first year. It was amazing experience and with all the facilities at the University I had no struggle. The University offers free societies, this helps a lot of people try out new things. I joined the snow sports society, the socials are great, they take place in the student union which has everything you would need from one. There is a service on campus called UniTemps, they advertise parttime work at the uni and surrounding area, I had a job through them, easy to apply, helped me get everything ready for interview and were very quick to reply if I had any queries.
the university itself is good, there are a lot of opportunities for students educationally as well as social life, would definetly recommend it to new people
Love this uni and the music dept is great. The wifi isn't great though.
The Campus was fantastic being the main one at Northampton. Everything facility was provided with assistance. I applaud the university for their hard work.
Great campus Great SU Amazing lecturers
Although Northampton wasn't my first choice, I have had the best year there so far. The staff are friendly, there are so many societies to join to make new friends and NBs is probably the best club Northampton has to offer. 10/10 would recommend
Lecturers are supportive and helpful. Facilities are kept clean and tidy. Library is big with seperate areas for silent study and normal study. Only downside is student car park is not overally huge but apart from that everything else is pretty good.
Split into 2 campus', the main campus is a friendly site with everything you need for convenience and pleasure. Great to socialise as well as study with friendly and approachable staff. Avenue campus is smaller but has the fundamental facilities and echo's Park Campus' atmosphere.
The best place to study. Helpful lecturers, state of the art facilities and 24/7 career advice to help you on your journey to being ready for your dream job.
the sports teams and opportunities within sport are fantastic as well as all sports teams being free to join. The SU club nights are also such good value for money and are always busy and have exiting guests. However the accomadation is quite outdated and the fire alarm is frequent and very frustrating.
I loved my time here at Northampton and will be sad to leave :( Had a great time in halls and the team looking after us whilst we were there were spot on! Anytime I had an issue I could go to accommodation office and they were super friendly. The internet is a little temperamental though but even though it wasn't accommodations teams job they still called around to get it fixed. The residential life team were lovely, when I had an issue with home I went to the accommodation office to talk they talked to me and then arranged for a member of their residential life team that night to make sure I was ok. Not really a fan of the SU ... don't think they do enough for students unless the want to drink and party. Could probably do with an update really. Library facilities were unbelievable, great resources, wonderful staff, and quiet areas that are 24 hour access. There are also I.T suites that are 24 hour. I loved my time here so much!!!
I still get graded in terms of 'a,b,c,d' etc and have never been given a proper numerical university style grade which along with the teaching style sort of makes it feel like a college. 90% of the time I don't receive emails from the university in that I should do and it requires a lot of guess/detective work. The Students union is very sticky and you can tell that every surface has at one point had sick on it. The campus itself is quite small and so easy to find your way around - that being said I've studied here for a year and never been able to find the actual books part of the library. Avenue campus is actually less impressive than my old secondary school and is nothing like a uni at all. The only food available is greggs which is... The wifi is extremely inconsistent and the university is located about 100 miles from civilisation (although that will be changing in a few years) meaning that it's an actual 40 minute!!!! Bus commute from Northampton town centre!!!!
Some facilities should have been bigger like the Students' Union, the Multi-Faith Chaplaincy.. Also the SU should consider the students who come to university and do not drink and go to clubs. They are probably a minority. It becomes difficult to actually go to the SU as there would be alcohol etc involved. There is also room for improvement with Wifi in halls, also maintenance of things in halls i.e. in kitchens and bedrooms. Overall a good university, with the campuses being easy to get used to and finding your way around.
Pro's: helpful University staff, a lot of facilities on campus, great food at cantine Con's: two campuses make it difficult to travel between ( very unreliable bus) ; most societies are at the bigger campus, if you happen to live there, good, if not, awful.
Clubs and societies are free! Really enjoyable. Lots of support at the uni
I never planned to come to northampton but people always say things happen for a reason, and i knew within the first 2 days of being at northampton that this was where i was suppose to be all alone. I never thought i would feel so at home so quickly, the university itself caters for all your needs and beyond. In my personal opinion it offers a fantastic university experience. The lecturers are fantastic, and from my personal experience they are very keen on helping you and put in extra hours to help you along your degree pathway. They are not only great at helping with studies they offer great advice with a large variety of issues or concerns you may have outside your degree such as flatmates or family issues which may hinder you studying. They offer a large variety of societies and social events which accommodate everyone and they offer fantastic nights out in the SU, which are extremely cheap but i proud to say that some of my best nights as a fresher where held in the SU.
Misleading with free sport. Lectures are good though with people full of passion about there subject area.
Beautiful uni. Really good staff and amazing courses. Love it.
I really like the university and I'm looking forward to my second year in September. The only criticism is that the campus that I am based on is not the main one, so I feel like it gets a little neglected.
Great university, very friendly people with tutors that are willing to help you with anything.
A innovative, fresh university. Great atmosphere, feels like a small village on campus. Only thing I'd criticise is that the students union isn't big enough!
-Many of the halls surrounded by trees and grass, generally nice surrounding -Village like campus, has a shop, library, sports grounds, bank and a sports centre right next to campus, very convenient for those who do sports. -cheap nights at the SU is a winner -celebrity appearances at the SU and on campus -friendly staff and students everywhere you go -a brilliant residential life team and support services -bus services constantly running to and from campus -sports at the uni is free for all
Cons?
-A small Students Union and it is only good on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
-since the uni is on a hill it is very cold and windy here!
-washing machines require exact change which is not convenient
-the wifi can be temperamental yet fine most of the time
The inside point
The library and resources are fantastic, the students union, sports teams and societies are supportive, fun and active. The night life is also a positive feature to Northampton. Buses only being £1 is handy.
Cons?
Placement wise the university is very poor.
The wifi has had many troubles.
The car parking space is very 1st come 1st serve.
