Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
The furniture seems to be new but it can be more cleaner.
The porter manager is very friendly, helps us with property issue quickly
It's beautiful place with all amenities. And clean.

great place to stay, nice kitchen, but i hope the kitchen table could be bigger because there’s 7 of us and only 6 chair. I hope the water in the bathroom can be combined, not very hot or very cold
Make sure you are not treated worse due to the country you come from. Do it for yourself and for others.
For context, my stay in grad college was during the pandemic where we had a lockdown in autumn and then another in January so social life was always going to be limited. However, during time out of lockdown, the college seemed to fight against anyone who wished to have friends round, let alone a party. Porters will invade your private spaces without warning. One porter in particular is incredibly rude and seems to be the one given the most shifts, even though we have witnessed him shout at students, particularly international students who struggle with certain parts of the english langauge. Also, the cleaner is very rude and often blocks room doors with a big trolley and the quality of many of the appliances are awful. The location is great and some of the college staff are very nice, but this is ruined by the rude staff that according to these reviews have been working for years with the same awful attitude. Live in town if you can! I certainly will be next time.
Make sure you are not discriminated against. Factors such as your country of origin may influence the way you are treated by the management (let alone by your flatmates). Make sure that xenophobia does not impair your experience.
As a postgraduate college, no consideration was made for us. They assumed we were unsocial and didn’t want to partake in university life. A few complaints were made about this and nothing was done.
Grad Bar is the best and good work spaces.
The secretaries who work here are so rude and disrespectful its shocking. They refuse to address any problems in Gradate College.
Expensive but actually it doesn't worth!
Grad College is very underestimated by the Uni, and they will be doing modifications all the time.
Overpriced halls with very poor management. With the money you pay for an ensuite room, you can rent your own flat in town, much better equipped and more spacious. The staff is not only unhelpful but rude and disrespectful. Plenty of restrictions, especially for socializing. You will be kicked out by the bouncers (porters) of someone'es flat if you are there after 12. The common room, which is the only space for socializing is small and, compared with the ones in other colleges, it has no equipment. It was closed for refurbishment half year this year with no major improvement. It's probably the noisiest college on campus. The noise comes not from students but from machinery working inside the college. The only good thing is that it is inside campus so you don't have to commute from town to uni every day. Also the bar is nice and it is probably the only social space available.
